Customer Review Summary

Reviewers mostly find the fish disappointing, describing the haddock as chewy and the cod as soggy batter with little fish. Chips are called over fried, and the mushy peas dry. Several call it overpriced, with one citing a tiny large cod portion. Staff are described as rude, and one reviewer offered a beef sausage in place of a saveloy received no apology.

“Foodwise, it's a decent chipper. It's in the upper end of the average neighborhood Fish and Chips, but nothing that justifies to be three times the price. Even considering the area and season, I had to put some thought to justify the …”

“The staff were very rude and made us feel incredibly unwelcome. We ordered a large cod and chips, but the portion was tiny, which was unacceptable for the price. The chips were pretty okay and the fish was fresh, but the batter was also disappointingly soggy and all was very very bland”

“Firstly the young man that welcomed us in and gave us menus was delightful and friendly and I felt a sense of relief that we managed to find a friendly place with our children. However the young lady making the food had 0 customer service and was frankly rude and appalling. The menu we were handed clearly stated ALL FOOD HALAL so we ordered various foods as well as saveloy. When the food arrived, we realised that actually it wasn't halal and was in fact pork, we didn't question why the menu stated everything's halal and simply requested to cancel that item. The young friendly man, went and told the young rude lady, who did not care that she was speaking rudely with such attitude. She was clearly annoyed that we didnt want the pork item and shouted "well they should have asked before ordering" and was being incredibly rude and we instantly felt unwelcomed and felt she was only showing this attitude because of the colour of our skin and our preference for non pork items. I am deeply saddened to have experienced this with our young children and would hope no one faces this kind of behaviour during a family trip away. I did speak to the owner, who just said she would give a beef sausage instead, yet I did not receive an apology or see any kind of remorse/regret. The food was also overpriced for what it was. Chips over fried and the cod had no fish and just batter!”

“Probably the worst Fish & chips I've had in a long time... Name of the place is very misleading to say the least. Served in a takeaway box and plastic knife and fork and the drink straight out the can although your eating inside. We ordered …”

“‘Best fish & chips’? NOT!! I ordered medium haddock & chips, & side order of mushy peas. It came in a nice takeout box, bagged with plastic knife fork & serviette. All good so far. Went to sea a front bench to eat, & on opening the box noticed how shrivelled the chips were (scrappy looking l) & on taste, full of fat. I’m not sure if they’re twice fried!?? Anyway, too much fat & little potato. Fish batter & fillet shape looked very suspect - like frozen ones??. One bite & I KNEW this fish had been frozen a long time!! Flesh was hard/chewy & not very white, & batter had a very unusual constant thickness all round the fish & VERY MUCH like what you’d buy frozen in a supermarket. I was convinced that it was a supermarket haddock. Very chewy indeed! Peas were very dry & like a pea puree rather than mushy peas!! I’m from Grimsby (fish town) & know what good fish & chips is & this most definitely was one of the worst I’d had. £16 too….horrendous!! When i passed the shop later, queues had gone, so decided to tell the guy who served me, nice & quietly. He argued the fish wasn’t frozen, but when I said I was from Grimsby & that you can’t tell me, he took it all on the chin! No offer of partial refund or apology! The only apology came from me for HAVING to tell him how bad it was. Frightfully English of me!!”
