About Leigh Woods Coffee Co

Leigh Woods Coffee Co is a coffee shop and cafe run from a trailer among the Leigh Woods walking trails on National Trust land in Bristol. It operates as a walk-in counter with outdoor seating, since indoor space is limited, and a step-free entrance keeps it open to visitors with mobility needs. Dogs are welcome, which suits anyone stopping in after a walk. The counter serves coffee, tea including a lemon and ginger option, and hot chocolate finished with cream, sprinkles and a flake, alongside a Cadbury version, all in one size. Food runs to bacon and sausage baps in a brioche bun, plus cakes such as chocolate flap jack and blueberry muffin. It opens Saturday and Sunday only, closed the rest of the week, and queues can form at busy times given the small setup.

Customer Review Summary

Walkers and dog owners return for hot chocolate after a muddy walk, with the version topped with cream, sprinkles and a flake singled out as delicious on a chilly day. Close behind are the cakes, including a home made chocolate flapjack and a blueberry muffin, plus lemon and ginger tea and a bacon and sausage bap. One reviewer praises the runny egg yolk and quality meat in a brioche bun. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and the lack of seating and weekend-only visits come up as minor drawbacks. Criticism centres on the drinks. One reviewer found the Cadbury hot chocolate pricey with only one size and wished for a kids size, and another called a flat white incredibly bitter. One former barista describes a first-day trainee re-steaming already heated milk, with old milk left on the steam arm and old grounds in the handle, and says the remade coffee still tasted burnt with grounds in the basket.

“This is our go to place before a.long dog walk. The place is clean, fast and friendly service, with surprisingly lengthy choice from hot and cold drinks, sweet and savoury food. Shout out for the meat quality in the nice brioche bun, even the egg yolk was runny. Better baps than most greasy spoon I've tried. The only issue is the lack of seating area but my guess is that, they aren't probably allowed as the national trust may not want to turn the beautiful scenery is a full blown open air café. All in all, repeated great experiences.”

“Really disappointing attitude toward staff training and standards. The young lad on the coffee machine had obviously not had any training at all. He re-steamed milk that had already been heated once, which was already smelling burnt from him not checking the temperature. Congealed old milk left on the steam arm (see photo), burnt old grounds left in the handle, no rinsing or wiping between shots. I used to train baristas. Any of these hygiene issues individually would be ringing alarm bells that this staff member is not ready to be serving coffee safely to customers, so to see all of them together was really shocking. When I asked about coffee training, the person in charge took over. He said it was the lad's first day, and remade the coffee without showing him what was wrong. The remade coffee still had old grounds left in the basket, tasted really burnt, and the chap treated me like i was being a nuisance. I felt really bad for the young lad, he's being set up really poorly with these low standards, and he could make someone really ill without understanding why. Crusty old milk on a steam arm is a breeding ground for bacteria and a contamination for people with allergies and vegans. Being in a trailer in the woods is no excuse, people make incredible coffee out of trailers in a number of locations across Bristol.”

“Had a lovely bacon and sausage bap, followed by a lovely cup of tea and a blueberry muffin. Lovely people and good quality stuff. ☺️❤️”

“Horrible coffee. Incredibly bitter. I’ve never had a flat white the way they serve it. Very odd. Would not recommend for good coffee.”

“Stopped for a coffee and hot chocolates after a walk. The Cadbury hot chocolate is quite pricey at £3.50 and they only do one size - be great if they could do kids size! Nice service and coffee though.”
