Customer Review Summary
The criticism is substantial. Reviewers say the pizzas arrived soggy, doughy or barely warm, and two found the burger good but not a smash burger, with another calling it dry and overcooked. One found the risotto mushy, the hollandaise runny and the rice pudding uncooked with crunchy rice. Another thought the Pollock heavily battered and noted three meals arriving after the first person had finished. A group said every dish had an issue, and one steak, though perfectly cooked, was extremely salty. Service slips included a flat white arriving as a black americano, and the pizza was comped by a waitress.

“Shame such a lovely pub and decor. Not sure when they got the rosettes. 3 meals came out after first person had finished theirs. Not sure why they would choose Pollock as their white fish, not very premium and a lot of batter, albeit light batter. The burger was nice but not a traditional smash burger. The pizzas had a great flavour when they arrived but soggy and doughy. The waitress comped the pizza which was a nice gesture ..... but we would have preferred a nice meal. Such a shame as a very lovely venue and you can see what they are trying to do with the menu but lacked the finesse and skills to pull it off.”

“Called in for a steak. Was seated straight away. Service and drinks were extremely good. However, the steak (albeit perfectly cooked) was extremely salty.”

“So I just left The Acton at Moreville. I am slightly buzzed by a couple of excellently prepared French Martinis. I love this place it is unexpectedly located in the middle of the English countryside. It is lovely the atmosphere was sweet casual not rowdy beautiful food and a very upscale menu. Henry who was the front of house manager was welcoming, personable and extremely knowledgeable of the menu and food preparation. He was extremely adept at helping to navigate the menu to find the meal that truly satisfied my appetite. The service was also extremely polite and easy.. It is a lovely place note I did not get into the details of the menu just to say everything we had .was all extremely delicious.”

“Group of us went for a meal but every dish had an issue. Not sure if it has changed hands since getting the AA rosettes but def not the standard to achieve that. Textbook errors, like it was cooked by a very junior chef with no experience.”

“Birthday lunch today, based on several recommendations. What a disappointment. Friendly but inefficient service (forgot to advise what was off menu until we ordered + gave misinformation about a dish, despite length discussions about the options earlier), plus never asked for drinks reorder (in 2.5 hours), a flat white ordered turned up as a black americano with milk on the side) but the food was a huge let down. Risotto? Overcooked, mushy and broken rice, Sausage roll? Dry and tough. Pizza? Taken from the oven next to us >10 mins before it was served (assuming it went under heat lamps in kitchen), meaning it was barely warm but dried out. Lamb sauce? Dominated by marmite. Chips? good but the burger was terrible. Not a smash burger, by any description, and it was dry and overcooked. Hollandaise sauce with vegetable sides? Runny, not emulsified + with tarragon, so that's a bernaise, not hollandaise. Pudding was a hugely uncooked rice pudding with crunchy rice (inedible) and overly sweet mango topping. No hint of coconut or lemongrass. A literal comedy of errors at every turn. We won't be back, sadly.”
