Customer Review Summary

The one detailed criticism comes from a three-star reviewer who found the ackee and saltfish a house-style version with added spice rather than the classic flavour. That reviewer also found some curry goat pieces chewy and fatty, and the banana cake dense with an overpowering cinnamon taste. Their dumplings seemed to have been sitting, and one was so hard half of it was thrown away.

“Dining in, Jerk Chicken, chips and veg or rice and peas, I chose the chips. The little container of side veg was just about adequate, it kept my dear departed mother from complaining about my lack of veg. The chips were plentiful and excellent, the best I have tried for years. As for the jerk chicken, it was delicious, whatever the secret sauce, it is truly superb. My only reservation is that it was my last night and I really would like to try the jerk salmon and perhaps the jerk chicken off the bone at £2 extra would have been a good choice also. Although I rarely drink lager, the Jamaican Red Stripe larger beer was a perfect accompaniment during the hot summer night.”

“Had a takeaway curry goat from here one day and it was so good we decided to eat in the next day. Then my girlfriend had jerk salmon and I had Guyanese Pepper Pot which was really excellent. The rum punch was great too! Would highly recommend. They do deliveries too”

“I’ll start by saying the food isn’t bad, but it’s not what I’d call traditional/authentic in flavour. (For some) If you’re ordering ackee & saltfish, don’t expect the classic flavour profile. This feels more like a house-style version with added spice, so if you’re used to traditional Jamaican cooking, it might not hit the same. The curry goat is nice and probably the closest thing to authentic flavour on the menu. Some pieces are tender and fall off the bone, but others were a bit chewy with more fat than I’d personally prefer. That’s just my preference though, it’s still enjoyable overall. Rice & peas was good. Mac & cheese was nice. Jerk chicken was the standout for me, definitely the best thing I had. Plantain was good as expected. The dumplings were disappointing, quite chewy and seemed like they’d been sitting for a while. I got 3, One of mine was so hard I had to throw half of it away. For £2 each, I expected better quality and a slightly bigger portion. The banana cake wasn’t for me. It was very dense and had an overpowering cinnamon taste, which took away from the banana flavour. Great for cinnamon lovers. Again my taste profile when comparing to homemade London/Birmingham/Northampton authentic places. Overall I would try again not the Ackee and salt fish though.”

“Really genuinely lovely and friendly service, and delicious food I had the vegan combo meal ( plantain and chickpea curry, rice and peas, coleslaw, and fried plantain) as well as plantain dumpling from the saver menu and a cheeky rum punch Great independent spot in boscombe , would recommend”

“Just had one of the best Caribbean meals ever at Uncle Glen’s in Bournemouth 🔥🇯🇲 The jerk chicken was absolutely unreal perfectly seasoned, smoky, and packed with flavour. You can tell it’s been cooked with real care and authenticity. And the curry goat… wow. Tender, rich, and full of deep, warming spices easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Portion sizes were generous, everything tasted fresh, and the whole experience just hit the spot. If you’re anywhere near Bournemouth and craving proper Caribbean food, this place is a MUST. 10/10 will definitely be back 🙌”
