About Escoffier Restaurant

Escoffier Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant on Old Christchurch Rd in Bournemouth, run as a training restaurant in the grounds of the college. Catering students cook and serve under their lecturers, so the same group of students handles both the kitchen and the dining room. Two menus are offered: a three-course lunch menu and a 7 course tasting menu, where the dishes are not known until the day. Service is full silver service, and small extras arrive after dessert. A drinks and wine list is available to go with the meal. Booking is needed.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the multi-course menus cooked and served by catering students, with the seven course tasting menu and the three course lunch drawing the most mentions. Diners describe the food as delicious and beautifully presented, with silver service and friendly, lovely students who chat about their course. Close behind is value, with several calling the price a bargain. Specific dishes named include a chocolate brownie, a sorbet and dessert described as lovely, and the Kashmir Squash main on the vegan tasting menu, which a party of three vegans enjoyed. The main caveat is the vegetarian offering and uneven execution. One diner who booked as vegetarian found no vegetarian main, so a starter dish with potatoes and one vegetable stood in. Another felt only one server knew what was being served, and found the frogs leg just a bone with batter and the salmon dull, though the bread, mussel soup, sorbet and dessert fared better. One reviewer says it is worth trying if a booking can be had, and another reports making two return bookings.

“I’m giving an honest opinion as it is a training restaurant so I understand the limitations but feel that my comments should be taken in the spirit of contribution. Look it was charming but only one server on my table knew what they were serving. . My food was bread - nice, a mussel soup - not bad, frogs leg - just a bone with batter, a small salad with feta - very average, salmon - very dull method of cooking and nothing to write home about, sorbet - lovely and desert - lovely. Everyone with me enjoyed it and love the concept. I’m just giving my true and honest experience.”

“I had a lovely Christmas lunch at Escoffier Restaurant in Bournemouth. The atmosphere was warm and festive, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious — everything was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. I really enjoyed the whole experience, and I would definitely visit again.”

“Absolutely excellent restaurant by the college trainees. The food was superb and where else can you enjoy three beautiful lunch-time courses for just £14.50 per head. The restaurant itself is very nicely and spaciously laid out in the grounds of the college and was scrupulously clean. Service by the students was also excellent. We have already made two further return bookings.”

“A great dining experience at the college. All the students are learning and our waitress Megan was lovely, and explained every course We had the 3 course lunch and I must say the chocolate brownie (from someone who doesn't eat puds), was absolutely amazing, yum !! The only thing I would say that could be improved upon is the vegetarian option - there was no main course option (only meat or fish) so my dining partner had a starter vegetarian dish as her main course with potatoes and one veg added (even though I stated she was vegetarian when I booked) That is the one and only fault, everything else was superb, and will definately be returning”
