About Chineside

Chineside is a beachfront cafe in Bournemouth, right on the beach off W Overcliff Dr, with an upstairs terrace that looks out over the sea. Orders are placed at the bar upstairs, and there is no table service. The brunch menu includes scrambled eggs and eggs royale, and the cake is handmade, with a Dorset apple cake among it. The kitchen also runs a gluten-free menu. Dogs are welcome, and they get sausages. The toilets are upstairs as well.

Customer Review Summary

The criticism is specific. One reviewer found the food inconsistent, with pancakes billed as fluffy American-style that did not match the description and a smashed avocado with almost no flavour. Another on crutches heard from a staff member that the toilets were upstairs and had to wait until getting home. Others note there is no table service, so orders are placed at the bar.

“Would have given five stars,(as I love this places location!) but sadly didn't due to the fact I was on crutches(due to me having had a fall in Dec of 2025),and I heard a member of staff (when asked) that the toilets were upstairs!! All I can say is I'm fortunate I wasn't desperate(As I had to wait until I got home),which again luckily for me is only a few miles away!!!🥴”

“We fancied breakfast overlooking the sea so we wandered down and sat upstairs on the terrace. Menu is very varied and good quality. My daughter had the shakshuka and I had eggs royale - both highly recommended. Coffee was excellent and they’ll do iced versions if you ask. Service was from a kiosk upstairs and the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We stayed there a good few hours in the sun and didn’t feel like we should be rushing off. I also had a slice of Dorset apple cake which was lovely with a cup of tea.”

“The location is great and the atmosphere is pleasant enough, although the furniture feels a little dated. Service was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. Unfortunately, the food was quite inconsistent. The eggs were fine and the berries were fresh and enjoyable. However, the pancakes were described as fluffy American-style pancakes, and what arrived really didn’t match that description in either texture or appearance. The biggest disappointment was the smashed avocado. It had almost no flavour, and the avocado itself didn’t seem to be good quality, which made the whole dish quite unpleasant. Overall, a lovely location with potential, but based on my experience, the food quality and consistency need improvement, particularly considering what is being advertised on the menu.”

“Always a quiet area visiting family, can see the herds of visitors in the distance. A beautiful place & feel safe with Lifeguard patrols. Food in easy reach & looked after wherever we go on the beach.”
  • Steve Roderick
“I'm giving Chineside a 5 star review based on their Gluten Free Menu from which I ate today. Good food, realistic prices, great position by the beach.”
