About Jo's Grill House Ltd
Grilled chicken anchors the cooking at Jo's Grill House Ltd, a Portuguese restaurant on Bridge Street in Bolton, where everything comes off the grill fresh to order. The chicken arrives either as a whole bird to share or as thin off-the-bone steaks, with carrot rice, fries and salad alongside and a homemade chilli sauce served with the food. Among the pasties sits a Piglet Pastie, which joins shamusas and olives on a list running to some 72 dishes, and homemade desserts, both English and continental, round off a meal. The owners run the place themselves in a simple grill café format, so you can eat in or order the same food to take away. High chairs make room for families with young children. Reservations are recommended for a table. The kitchen works Tuesday through Sunday and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
The flame grilled chicken is what brings people back, most often the whole chicken ordered to share, with several also singling out the chicken steaks for their flavour. Close behind sit the lamb chops, carrot rice, fries and salad, and a homemade chilli sauce one diner describes as wonderful, while others point to the homemade English and continental desserts as a highlight. Portions are repeatedly called generous and the prices low, and reviewers describe food prepared on the spot and grilled to order. The owners draw steady praise for a warm family welcome, with one visitor noting a language barrier they found part of the fun. Against that, one reviewer reports being served a raw, pink chicken steak and raises concerns about food poisoning. Longtime regulars counter that across years of visits their food has always come thoroughly cooked.

“Had a delicious meal here tonight. Freshly cooked, high quality chicken, lamb chops, carrot rice, fries and salad and wonderful, homemade chilli sauce. Excellent food, cooked to perfection and fantastic value at less than £12 each including drinks! The restaurant is a simple café / takeaway grill style but we chose to eat in and were made to feel very welcome by Jo (Jose) and his son David. If you are in the area and would like some great food with a warm family welcome at an incredible price then you should visit here!”

“I don't ever leave bad reviews but I have to warn people. We received raw chicken which is just completely unacceptable. We are so careful about where we eat and trusted this establishment only to be served a completely pink, wet chicken steak. It's a thin off-the-bone piece of chicken. There is no exuse for it being uncooked and raw. We are terrified of having food poisoning as we have children to look after and no help. Please see images. I don't want this to happen to anybody else.”

“Best chicken around! We normally order the whole chicken to share and it's always amazing. So much flavour I've also had the chicken steaks which are really nice. Lovely friendly staff and really good value for money.”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
