About Bambu
On Deansgate in Bolton, Bambu is a Chinese restaurant with a small, cafe-like seating area. The sesame prawn toast comes loaded with a thick layer of prawn paste, and Singapore style noodles are a recurring order alongside curry sauce dishes cooked with spices. Milk tea made with condensed milk rounds out the drinks, and a small dessert is served at the end of the meal. Reservations are recommended, though the room can get very busy at peak lunchtimes. Cash payments are accepted, with a portion going to charity. The restaurant opens Tuesday to Saturday and closes on Mondays and Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Prawn toast draws the most consistent praise, described repeatedly as loaded with a thick, chewy layer of prawn paste and among the best appetisers reviewers have had at any Hong Kong style spot. Close behind, diners return for the Singapore style noodles and stew beef bowl, the beef ho fun and udon versions, the beef tendon satay, and the curry sauce dishes like the Bambu Special with fried egg noodles, alongside hand made meat dumpling soup and stir-fried beef. The milk tea gets called out for its condensed milk sweetness, and several mention a small dessert served at the end of the meal, including a blackcurrant jelly cheesecake. Service and the family run, Hong Kong chef owned feel come up often, with staff described as friendly and the owner going out of their way for customers; a few note the cash payment option supports a charity. The only real caveat is a crowding issue at peak lunchtimes, with one reviewer suggesting a later visit or reservation, and another finding the ho fun noodle a bit rough and thick. Reviewers repeatedly say portions are generous and prices reasonable for what arrives.

“Great food, one of the best ive had. Small cafe like environment, so casual but very nice. Staff were lovely and the food was out really quickly. Would highly recommend.”

“As a Chinese, I will say it is the best Chinese restaurant I have tried in UK. Perfect!!”

“I was never a fan of prawn toast until we tried Bambu’s version. It’s delicious! The prawn topping is about an inch deep and it is very flavoursome. We tried the beef tendon satay today which was also delicious. Beef ho fun (the flat rice noodle) is one of my favourites but we opted for Bambu’s udon (chunky, round noodle) version for a change today which didn’t disappoint 😋 Understandably, this modest restaurant which serves more authentic Asian dishes is popular and can get very busy at peak lunchtimes, so it might be worth visiting later in the afternoon if it is your first time. There are modestly priced car parks within easy walking distance. It might be worth downloading the NCP app and adding your details before your journey.”

“Food is really good! Highly recommend the Singapore vermicelli noodles, we also had the soup with meat dumplings, which were freshly made by hand. The prawn toast is the most generous I’ve had - a lot of prawns packed to the brim. Really good! Can definitely recommend this place. Sadly I didn’t take enough food pics!”
