About Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant

Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant is a fish and chip restaurant in Bolton, on Great Moor St opposite the bus interchange, which suits a meal before a show at the Octagon. It opened in 1988, and a pianist plays the Schimmel grand piano during meals on some days. The menu centres on fish and chips, with cod and haddock, and also includes a homemade cheese and onion pie served with chips and beans. Moussaka sits alongside them for those after something different, and traditional desserts such as syrup sponge with custard finish the meal. Orders are placed at the counter. The restaurant is licensed and serves wine and beer. A conservatory room forms part of the dining space.

Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips anchor the praise, with diners singling out the cod and the haddock, described as tasty, fresh and delicious. Close behind are the friendly, helpful staff and the relaxing atmosphere, where a pianist and live music add to the mood, though one reviewer found the music a bit loud. The menu stretches further than some expected, and reviewers name the homemade cheese and onion pie, a pepperoni pizza with a generous amount of cheese, and a creamy vegetable soup that works as a dip for the chips. The chips draw the sharpest complaints. One reviewer calls them dry and very greasy, with bland mushy peas, while another found them soft rather than crisp and a third felt the cod lacked flavour. Several raise price, saying portions seem to have shrunk. One family lunch felt expensive for what arrived, and the shared large cod was said to come with barely enough chips for one person after the counter had called it a very large portion.

“Went here this lunch time to get some chips for my 3 children. They served every customer who came in after me before me. Noticed the dirty looks looking at my hijab. When it was my turn to get served one of the female servers walked away. I was served when there were no customers left. Didn’t appreciate this as I had 2 toddlers and a child. If you have a gut feeling about a place avoid it. Started being nice to me when they realised I spoke English”

“Kwick service, however not the best fish and chips I've tried, but the beer alcohol free I had was Expired 3 mounts ago. After the first taste I've realised is out of date and looked in to the label. Costumer service didn't responded how it should.”

“What a fantastic chippy. Perfect for a meal before going to see a show at the Octagon. As it's chippy its really quick to come out and always fresh. The service is always amazing, everyone is always so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The pianist playing only adds to the experience making the atmosphere so relaxing. Highly recommend 👌”

“The fish and chips was fresh and tasty! The service was also fantastic. The only downside was that the live music was a bit loud. Overall, a great experience.”
