Customer Review Summary

The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the chicken curries undercooked and bland, with trays that looked like they had sat a while, and another found the chops a little hard. Others note overcrowding, a broken air conditioning unit one evening, and toilets that need better maintenance. One reviewer suggests booking ahead to beat the weekend rush. Another describes the manager calmly handling guests who complained about a two-chop limit and a slow Lamb Rogan Josh refill.

“God bless Mr Maz — what an amazing human being. On Sunday 30th August, we had the pleasure of dining at Shahi Masala in Birmingham. Every year we meet family from London somewhere central, and since we live in Manchester, this location was perfect. A week earlier, I searched Google for buffet restaurants in Birmingham and Shahi Masala stood out with excellent ratings. I called the restaurant and spoke to the lovely Mr Maz (Manager), who kindly recommended visiting before 6pm. We arrived at 5:15pm and were seated immediately as a group of seven, even though the restaurant was around 75% full. We were informed of the 90‑minute dining window, which was completely reasonable. The selection of starters, mains, desserts, and drinks was outstanding. Both adults and children were spoilt for choice. The price of £22 per person included tap water, soft drinks, and mango lassi — a generous touch. There was truly something for everyone, even for those who don’t usually choose Indian cuisine. Options included fresh chips, pizza, pasta, salads, potato wedges, lasagne, and more, alongside a wide range of delicious Indian dishes. The staff were courteous, hardworking, and clearly committed to giving guests the best experience possible. I did witness two moments where customers complained unnecessarily — once about the fair two‑lamb‑chop limit per person (you can still queue up again - there were no restrictions to how many times you could visit), and once about waiting for the Lamb Rogan Josh curry to be replenished. In both situations, Mr Maz handled everything with professionalism, dignity, patience, and kindness, ensuring fairness for all guests. The restaurant was clean, organised, and impressively run considering they serve around 350 people at a time. As a group, we tried to sample as much as possible and thoroughly enjoyed every dish. ❤️ Overall Experience Our family left extremely satisfied with both the food and the service. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr Maz and his dedicated, hardworking team for making our dining experience memorable. We look forward to returning next year, God willing. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 Stars) Anything less would not reflect the quality of our experience. Please see the food photos below, including a picture of the wonderful Mr Maz. Do say “hello” to him when you visit. Best regards, Mr Honest Foodie”

Traditional mains like their rich nihari and butter chicken are bursting with authentic, deep flavours. They pair beautifully with fresh naan and the unlimited soft drinks, juices, and mango lassi included in the fixed price.Do not forget to save room for the heavenly dessert section. The sweet spread features traditional warm gulab jamun, soft cakes, and a spectacular chocolate fountain alongside a popular whipped ice cream machine. The staff are remarkably professional, attentive, and quick to clear away plates, maintaining a welcoming environment even during busy weekend hours. “Wife’s Bday treat ❤️ Really impressed with Shahi Masala in Birmingham. Coming from a long-time fan of Ziryab, I didn’t expect to be this impressed, but the food here is fresher, well-spiced, and full of variety and cost wise it was perfect. Great grills like lamb chops etc…rich curries, and solid dessert selection. Staff were friendly and the place was clean and well run. Easily one of the best desi buffets in the city right now.”
