Quick info
About Grandads Tastee Patties
Grandads Tastee Patties is a small Jamaican patty takeaway at 125 Holyhead Rd in Birmingham. Every patty is served in coco bread, with fillings that run from cheesy beef to goat and ackee & saltfish, and the full range is halal. That gives vegetable and meat eaters alike a choice on the same counter, and boxes of patties can be ordered ahead of a visit. The shop opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays. The space is compact, and a queue often forms to be served.

Customer Review Summary
Cheesy beef is the patty reviewers single out most, with one calling it the tastiest they have ever had and others praising the beef for its spicy, good flavour. Close behind are the vegetable patties, which several describe as really nice, one saying it tasted even better microwaved the next day. Reviewers also mention ackee and saltfish, mutton, chicken, fried dumpling and coconut cake, and one praises the coco bread as lovely and heated nicely. Service is described as pleasant and quick, though a few note a queue when the small shop gets busy and that there is no parking apart from side roads. The main complaint is filling. One reviewer says the patties were mostly bread and pastry with only a hint of ackee, beef or mutton, and another found hardly any meat and half the cheesy beef filling left in the bag. A couple also say prices are creeping up. One diner returned for two cheesy beef patties and a veg one, all fresh and hot.

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely loved the patties! The pastry was fresh, flaky and full of flavour, and the filling was really tasty and well-seasoned. You can tell they’re made with care. The portions were generous, the service was lovely and everything was fresh and delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend if you love a good Jamaican patty! 🇯🇲❤️”

“Fresh hot patties. I had two cheesy beef ones (£3.20 each) and a veg one (£2.20). They're also halal.”

“Excellent patties, quick service and lots of options. It can get busy in the shop so there’s often a queue to be served but the staff move through orders quickly. Patties are getting pricey but it is understandable for the current economy.”

“Brought 3 patties, ackee and saltfish, cheese and beef and mutton. All put in coco bread. The coco bread was lovely, all heated nicely. Unfortunately each pattie didn't have enough filling. Felt like we were mainly eating bread and pastry with a hint of ackee/beef or mutton. They didn't punch with flavour. We would have loved to have brought boxes.”

“Hi, I just wanted to complain about the patties I bought. There was hardly any meat in them at all, and paying £5.70 for two patties is really overpriced for the quality received. Very disappointed and expected much better value for the money. And to top it off with cream and sprinkles I ordered cheesy beef and the half the filing was in the bag.”
