Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the staff, describing friendly, welcoming service and one server who won back a diner who had nearly stopped returning after earlier bad experiences. Close behind is the food: a shared spread of lahm bi'ajeen, beef salami and cheese manakeesh, chicken shawarma, grilled halloumi and a falafel platter with garlic and chilli dip, along with vegan mains and Arabic sweets alongside coffee. Reviewers also praise the tea, including iced tea and rose lemonade, and describe a relaxing, cozy atmosphere with a courtyard out back. The caveats are consistent in kind. One diner found the chicken shawarma bowl not very filling unless ordered with a side, another called the beef dry and bitty with a small portion, and one visitor had to nearly get up from the table to have an order taken and to pay the bill. Even so, a returning diner after more than ten years calls the Syrian dishes still fantastic.

“What a lovely place this is. My first visit with a friend. We went for an entirely vegan option. Chose a variety of different mains to share. Will definitely be visiting again........they also serve a good quality coffee”

“Used to come here when I lived in Birmingham over 10 years ago. Upon my return I find that the food is still fantastic just as it used to be. Authentic Syrian dishes superbly tasty, can't go wrong.”

“Always visit before the Mostly Jazz Festival for coffee and snacks. Very pleasant surroundings and a nice courtyard out the back. Service, while courteous and friendly, lacks oomph and awareness and we had to almost get up from the table to ask for our order to be taken and to pay the bill. Staff just need to be more aware and attentive and it would be a 5 🌟 venue.”

“I had a wonderful experience at this café (Damascena Moseley) . The General manager, Zina, and the rest of the staff: Mohammad, Freddy, Hajar, Maria and two more girls are absolutely excellent — friendly, welcoming, and very professional. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance was warm and relaxing. You can really feel the care and attention they put into everything. Highly recommended, and I’ll definitely be coming back again! ~ Nate”
