About Cherry Red's Cafe Bar
Cherry Red's Cafe Bar is a cafe and bar on John Bright St in Birmingham, with live music alongside the food and drink. Breakfast runs all day and includes a Vegan Full English, and about a third of the menu is vegan, which gives plant-based diners plenty to choose from. American-style pancakes are stacked with maple syrup and toppings such as bacon and egg or fried chicken. At the bar, cask real ale and craft keg are on tap and poured without sparklers, with guest cans and bottles and a large selection of low and alcohol-free beers. Customer Review Summary
Craft beer is the most frequent draw, with reviewers praising keg and cask pours, cans, and a pint of Pale Brummie served without a sparkler. Several single out the low and alcohol free beers, one calling it the largest non-alcoholic selection they had encountered. Food comes close behind: all day breakfast, burgers, and a vegan menu, with cauliflower wings in tasty seasoned batter and good chips singled out. Buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup arrived quickly and were called delicious. One reviewer found the fried chicken pancakes a little dry, with only two pieces of chicken despite being advertised with peppers, and also disliked food served on paper when using a knife and fork. Staff are described as friendly, and the room as quirky and laid back, with comfy sofas. One reviewer recommends the Mexican hot chocolate, and another praised the chilli and cinnamon version for its lingering heat.

“I recently visited Cherry Reds before going to the matinee show at the Alexandra Theatre. What a lovely place - super friendly and accommodating staff, great menu and coffee plus the largest selection of non-alcoholic beer I've encountered. Such a refreshing change for a driver!! Will definitely visit again when in the area.”

“Having previously gone to the excellent Bonehead, I've been curious about visiting the place right next to it! From the moment I walked through the door, I felt a wonderful quirky atmosphere, thanks to the unique mix of real ale and craft beer, with an American red diner shine. The top floor of Cherry Red's regularly stages events such as Comedy nights, whilst the ground floor is for dining. The outside features small tables and pull- out chairs, allowing guests to enjoy the sun whilst dining. On the inside, the ground floor has a mix of large and small tables. For seating, the cafe has a comfy sofa, chairs and stalls. The food menu wonderfully caters to all tastes, with an extensive Vegan selection offering a tasty take on a Vegan Full English and delicious toppings for homemade American - style pancakes. Served up with the Vegan options, the cafe does great, thick burgers and rich homemade cakes. On the bar, the cafe has a very good number of spirits options, cocktails and boozy milkshakes. Joining the staple keg beers, the cafe has a great variety of real ale Cask beers and guests cans/ bottles, keg craft beers. For soft drinks, the cafe has Indie fizzy drinks, mocktails , milkshakes, specially teas, coffee and silky hot chocolates. Visiting on this occasion whilst waiting for a train, I went for a delicious slice of passion fruit cake and the Three C's ( chocolate, chill & cinnamon) hot chocolate. Not having had a hot drink with chilli before, I found the underlying, lingering heat of the chilli to be absolutely superb, with the chilli heat being paired with the aromatic cinnamon & creamy chocolate. Taking the last sip of the hot chocolate, I left for the train station with a cherry/ cheerful smile on my face.”
