Quick info
About Brennans' Bar
Brennans' Bar is a pub in Belfast, on Great Victoria St opposite the Europa. Fish and chips is the house special, and the bar menu also covers food such as Irish stew, so a meal can sit alongside a pint of Guinness. In the evenings, live music and a singer give the pub a programme of entertainment to go with the food and drink. The building has an upstairs and a downstairs, which gives visitors two floors to choose from.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, with several calling it cooked to perfection and one saying it was up there with the best, and the portions are described as big. Irish stew comes up close behind, praised as excellent and good in taste, along with the treacle bread. The Guinness gets high marks too, and one Irish American visitor judged it better than the version back home. Live music and a lively atmosphere draw repeated mentions, with one group staying longer because the singer was so good, though one calls it a bit noisy. Staff are described as friendly, accommodating and efficient, and one solo diner says a woman behind the bar remembered them on a return visit. The fish and chips draws the sharpest complaint, with one reviewer calling it the worst despite the "world famous" billing. Another found the tomato soup underwhelming, and a group of five arrived at 7 pm to find the kitchen closed, so they stayed for beer and vodka instead.

“Do not order the fishing ships, even though it says world famous.. I would call it the world's worst. Travel many places and have never had a problem. Could not wait to get to ireland to try their fishing and chips but this was the biggest disappointment”

“We walked in here at 7 pm for drinks and dinner. We were a group of 5. We got a table quickly enough- there was no waiting. Unfortunately there was no food as the kitchen was closed. Thats why I have a 1 star for the food - never got to actually taste it. We ended up having some beer and vodka. The atmosphere was great and the live music was awesome! Worth the visit.”

“Me the wife and teenager wandered in here for a bit of food and a drink. Good food, great Guinness and a decent price. When we were there (on a Tuesday evening) it was lively and had a true "Irish" spirit about the place. Staff were fantastic and efficient. Definitely visit here again, in fact I've recommended it to family visiting later in the year.”

“Had a mates meet up in Brennans in Belfast opposite the Europa. A range of selected pints were £4.95 which was a good intro. We had planned to move on for a late lunch elsewhere but the staff were so accommodating and it was comfortable we asked for the bar menu. Between us we had chicken curry half & half, chicken coupons and chips and fish and chips. Everyone enjoyed and the portions were big. I can honestly say my fish & chips was up there with the best...photo attached. Highly recommend”
