About China Diner
China Diner is a Chinese restaurant at 7 The Highway in Beaconsfield, cooking Szechuan and Pekinese dishes. Restaurateur George Li founded it in 1978, when Pekinese cooking was just beginning in the UK, so the kitchen's style goes back to that early period. The family-owned restaurant has been under new management since February 2026. The menu includes hot and sour soup, lamb in lettuce and honey pork. The dining room has been refurbished since the new owners took over.

Customer Review Summary
Diners who praise the food most often name honey pork, crispy broccoli, Thai herb prawns and shredded smoked chicken, with hot and sour soup and lamb in lettuce also singled out as favourites. Service is described as friendly, attentive and quick, and the restaurant as clean, quiet and recently refurbished. The recurring complaint is portion size, with one reviewer comparing it unfavourably to portions in South Africa and another calling them small. Reviews since the change of owners are more divided. One long-time regular found the sweet and sour chicken odd and not as good as before, another called the meal mediocre for the prices and standard takeaway fare, and one family felt treated disrespectfully when part of their order was missing. Others describe the service as spot on. One party celebrating Chinese New Year had an extra guest accommodated at the last minute, and another table's guest with a nut allergy was genuinely looked after.

“I opened an app on my lunch break to find somewhere to eat. It counts calories from a photo of your plate. The shrimp dish had plenty of protein and fit my daily target. The restaurant interior is clean and quiet.”

“Delicious dinner. Small portion sizes compared to what we’re used to in South Africa, but all dishes we ordered were tasty. Service spot on.”

“Took the family here after a long day, and China Diner sorted us right out. Proper tasty food, quick service, and a cosy feel throughout. I’ll happily be back when I’m after a reliable sit-down supper.”

“I have been going to China diner for well over 2 years now. However, on this occasion I was beyond appalled by the service. Never again will I be going here. Very very disrespectful new owners. Such a shame given that collectively as a family we have been going to them and recommending them so much. Really appalled with how we were treated in response to them missing part of our order. Being respectful is free, it’ll take you a long way.”

“Not sure where all the 5 star ratings come from because we certainly didn’t get that vibe. The food was nothing special, literally the standard fair you’d expect from any cheap takeaway. With all the 5 star ratings we honestly expected the food to be outstanding but sadly not. The staff were very polite and attentive and the restaurant itself is quite nice, not sure what’s going on with all the cctv though! Shame that it wasn’t up to scratch, we were looking forward to our evening and it was incredibly mediocre for the prices they charge. Will not be returning”
