About Leigh House
Leigh House is a family-run Chinese restaurant in Beaconsfield, at 53 Wycombe End, open since the 1980s. The kitchen cooks mainly Cantonese food, with Peking and Szechuan dishes also on the menu. On Sundays it serves a buffet where the staff bring dishes to the table rather than leaving diners to help themselves. The meal starts with a mixed platter of Peking ribs, spring rolls and prawn toast. Guests tick their choices on a list and can ask for top-ups at any point during the meal. The Sunday buffet is by reservation. Seafood also has a place on the menu, with lobster noodles, steamed fish and green shelled mussels among the dishes.

Customer Review Summary
Seafood draws the most praise at Leigh House, with reviewers naming lobster noodles, steamed fish and New Zealand green shelled mussels, and one birthday diner singling out the seafood dishes. The Sunday buffet comes close behind. Dishes are brought to the table from a tick list rather than a self-serve counter, starting with a mixed platter, and top-ups can be ordered, though unfinished dishes are charged. Reviewers rate the giant spring rolls, crispy seaweed and Peking ribs, and call the Szechuan beef and twice cooked pork tender. Two suggest booking ahead for Sundays. Complaints centre on blandness and service. One buffet diner found the prawn toast lacking prawn flavour, the chicken with ginger and spring onion like chicken soup, and the fried apple and banana dessert bland. A family of five describes a cold welcome, no prawn crackers until they asked, and no allergy checks despite three children. One wedding guest reports small portions and little meat but lots of rice, while another says the kitchen catered their wedding banquet for 120 guests.

“Unfortunately I was really disappointed with small portions and not enough meat, lots of rice though. And this was at a wedding. Staff was lovely but food was very disappointing.”

“I had booked a table for my family of five at Leigh House on Saturday. We arrived at the allocated time and were greeted by a short lady, who appeared to be the owner. Unfortunately, the welcome felt cold and uninviting. She pointed towards our table without much interaction, which immediately set an uncomfortable tone. The restaurant itself also felt physically cold on entry. We were given three food menus and two small bowls of water with lemon slices, along with a small bowl of sauce. The restaurant was around 60% full, with a young barman, a waitress, the owner, and a waiter bringing food from the kitchen. After reviewing the menus for around 10 minutes, we had to ask for a drinks menu. The same lady told us it was already on the table, but we had only been given three food menus. There was no apology when she brought the drinks menu over. As more guests arrived, we noticed they were greeted much more warmly. We also observed that prawn crackers were placed on every newly seated table. None were brought to ours. I had to call over another waitress to take our drinks and food order. When our starters arrived, I asked why every other table had prawn crackers and we did not. The waitress apologised and brought them over. The owner walked past our table several times and could clearly see we didn’t have any, yet chose not to address it. The food itself was tasty starters, duck, and mains all arrived in good time. However, at no point were we asked about allergies or whether everything was satisfactory. Considering we had three children with us, you would expect allergy checks and general attentiveness to be a priority. There were moments when the owner appeared to be idle near the bar, so it did not seem to be a staffing issue. We were also never asked if we wanted additional drinks and had to get the waitress’s attention ourselves. In terms of service: • Customer service and attention to detail: 2/10 • Integrity: 3/10 After paying the £176 bill (service charge included, which I paid), the waitress took my receipt. When I asked for it back, she told me it was not a VAT receipt. I explained that I needed it, and she said she would get one. This raised concerns for me regarding transparency. Additionally, drinks are poured into glasses before being brought to the table, meaning you never see the actual bottle. While beers filled the glasses exactly, soft drinks such as J2O appeared to be served with around 50% ice, meaning you likely receive less than the full bottle amount. We were not asked whether we wanted ice. Overall, it’s a shame because the food was genuinely enjoyable. However, customer service is at the heart of any successful restaurant, and based on our experience, this is where they fall short. Overall score: 5/10”

“I eat in this restaurant on a regular bases but have never done the Sunday Buffett. I love my food so thought I’d take up the challenge 😁 I usually have my 3 dishes but managed to finish them and another 3 after that in stages and finished them all !:) amazing service and definitely got my moneys worth. I would recommend this the buffet to all. Under £40 with 2 drinks 😁”

“Leigh House really can cook - Western crowd pleasers like prawn toast or sweet and sour chicken or more authentic dishes like lobster noodles or steamed fish done better than any big city London restaurant. Service is warm and familiar, you get what you give in terms of friendliness, the more you give them more you get! Also they can cater big events off site, I should know - they did our wedding! Not just buffet trays of stuff but bespoke banquet dishes for 120 people. Happy to give a reference if anyone is thinking about it.”
