Customer Review Summary

The complaints carry real weight. Vegan dishes come up repeatedly for sharing one very sweet sauce, and the vegan fried rice was described as plain rice and peas. Other diners found the lemon chicken fatty and the fish aubergine mushy, and some called the prices inflated. One reviewer reports a dish served incorrectly and a piece of metal scouring pad found in another, and says staff had not noticed the mix-up until the table pointed it out.

“We had a wonderful meal at China Kitchen 1423 in Windsor. Every dish we ordered was delicious, and we finished everything! The grilled fish was fresh, tender, and full of flavour with a rich, perfectly balanced spicy sauce. The dry pot prawns were equally impressive—fresh, juicy, and packed with fragrant spices. The garlic pork belly was another standout, with thin, tender slices and a delicious garlic sauce that was both savoury and refreshing. The portions were generous, the ingredients were fresh, and you could really taste the authenticity in every dish. The staff were friendly, and the service was attentive throughout our visit. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food in Windsor, I highly recommend China Kitchen 1423. We’ll definitely be back!!! 10/10!!!”

“Absolute gem right near Windsor Castle! The location is unbelievably convenient if you're visiting the castle and looking for an incredible lunch or dinner spot. We tried authentic Sichuan dishes, including the fish, soup, and the king prawn with salted egg, and every single dish was packed with amazing flavor. The authenticity and quality of the Sichuan spice really blew us away. If you are spending the day exploring Windsor, you have to stop by here. Highly recommended!”

“My family and I spotted this Chinese food place while waiting in line to enter Windsor Castle. We immediately knew we had to come back for dinner. The building has an amazing history it is the oldest building in Windsor besides the castle of course. We were able to sit outdoors and it was such a beautiful evening. The food was delicious, the customers service was incredible. The staff gave us a tour to the upper floor and told us about the history of the building. All in all, we all had a wonderful experience and customer service was outstanding! Thank you, 1423 Chinese Restaurant.”

“Overall, a decent and edible meal. Stop in because I didn't want fish & chips or an afternoon tea, or fast food. Ordered the prawn chips, the crispy duck and egg fried rice. The duck pancakes were tasty. The prawn chips weren't very tasty and either egg fried rice was simply boiled rice with scramble egg and peas. Customer service was good and the atmosphere was nice. I did enjoy my dining experience because of the duck. Prices were a bit expensive, but I found something within my budget.”

“Gutted this place didn't live up to expectations. Vegan options all taste the same. Same sauce used for everything. It's far too sweet, couldnt finish any of the dishes. £6.95 for vegan fried rice which was literally a bowl of plain rice and peas. 🙄 Great they offer vegan options, however, such a shame they are packed with sugar and not much flavour. Previous reviews show extensive vegan menu, came May 2026 and this was only option available.”
