About Opium Bar

Opium Bar is an underground cocktail bar in central Bath, set beneath a road by Pulteney Bridge in a speakeasy-style space. The bar is divided into sections, each with its own theme, and the lighting is dim, with candles and incense. Seating on cushions on the floor sits at the back. The cocktail menu is large, with the Old Fashioned among the drinks on it, and the bar makes bespoke cocktails on request. A secret room can be booked for parties, which gives groups a space of their own. Drinks come by table service, and a tab can be settled at the end of the visit.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the cocktails at this underground bar beneath a road in central Bath, where the old fashioned is called one of the better ones a diner has had. One reviewer praises a lychee ice tea, a Moscow Mule and a dirty Martini, and another describes a bespoke spicy rum cocktail made to order. Close behind is the staff, whom reviewers call friendly and welcoming, with bartenders who chatted with solo visitors and groups alike. The decor draws repeated praise as gorgeous and quirky, with a secret speakeasy feel, candles and incense, and cushions on the floor at the back. A hen party used a private room for karaoke and dancing. Reviewers call the prices fair for Bath. The one complaint is that drinks must be ordered at the bar even though the place seems set up for table service, and one group admits sampling the large menu a bit too much, with headaches the next day. Several visited midweek and found it quiet.

“Me and my boyfriend have kept coming back to Opium bar as a great end to our night out in Bath. One of the things that makes this cocktail bar stand out from the rest is that each cocktail is a unique experience!”

“Came in as a reasonably large group and got seated deep with in the bar. Which is situated underground and is beautifully decorated with a classical arty vibe and dim lighting. I had Asahi and an old fashioned. The old fashioned was definitely up there with one of the better ones I have ever had. There was a very large cocktail menu too, which I think some of my friends may have sampled a bit too much of given their headaches the next day! Definitely worth a visit in an evening to experience some of Bath's nightlife!”

“This is a real quirky and different cocktail bar, that if you come bath you have to visit. Reminders me of the Incognito Bar in Winchester! Get staff are super friendly and what's more they know how to make a cocktail! Had the lychee Ice Tea and Moscow Mule (choose the rum option) whilst the wife asked for a dirty Martini. All were made perfectly, they weren't mean with the alcohol and what's more not 'ripoff' prices!!! Having been to so many cocktail bars where you pay £18 for a half arsed cocktail that tastes like it was canned, this place is the real deal! Ask for a bespoke cocktail and these geniuses will make u something special. I asked for a spicy rum number and what I got was incredible (at standard price). Didn't want to leave and a massive highlight of our Bath stay We will definitely come again! Oh.....did I mention.....book Bath and go there now!!!”
