Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips draws the most praise, with one diner calling the fish white as snow and another describing a big, tasty portion, and the chips are called well fried. Close behind are the pie, which one reviewer says tasted great, and a plant based burger with onion rings, along with easy gluten free ordering. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, cheerful and quick at clearing tables, and the food is said to arrive quickly even when a bus trip turned up. The sunny conservatory, a dog menu at the counter and the adjoining garden centre also get mentions. The complaints are specific. One diner found the lunchtime pie dry and not obviously homemade, and the jacket potato still a little hard under beans and cheese, with a noisy room and a bill that felt high. Another found the gravy a letdown, and a late-day cheesecake had a soggy crumb base and little taste. A few mention prices as a little higher, though one still found the meal good value. One reviewer's strawberry slice tasted very fresh.

“Called in on the way past for a quick coffee and something to eat. Not long until closing so cake was the only option. Small shop also closed due to floor cleaning. Shame, as I really wanted to spend in there. Coffee. Decaf flat white. Tasty, warm and did the trick. Cheesecake. Bit boring. Little taste, a bit stale (crumb on the bottom was soggy) and just came as it was. E.g. no side of cream or fruit compote etc. as other places tend to serve. Table's were clean. Some debris on the floor. Staff very friendly and attentive. All were pleasant, cheerful and working very hard.”

“A truly lovely place to visit. The food and drink options are really tasty, well cooked and presented with really good pricing. Small garden centre plus other sales units. Found by accident but I am really glad we did.”

“Worth a visit for the food. My father's fish was big and tasty and my strawberry slice tasted very fresh. The garden centre is a bit expensive however, worth a trip if you want somewhere different for lunch.”
  • Vicky Graves
“Was lovely, first time visiting, food was lovely and staff very friendly, lovely to see out and see the wildlife also 😊”

“Moved into the area a few months ago discovered this wonderful place. The food is always served quickly and is exceptional, staff are always polite and offer a very high standard of service. It is so easy to order gluten free food with no stress and that alone is a bonus for gluten-free people. I have been all over the world and the old tile works gets it right everytime, yes the price is a little higher than some places but this is not an issue when you have great food and service it is worth every penny. Keep it up.”
