Customer Review Summary

The cheese soufflé is the dish diners name most, with one reviewer urging others to try it and another starting with it before moving on to the Homity pie and a berries roulade they found outstanding. Steaks, Scotch eggs and crème brûlée also draw praise, and one reviewer says the chips melted in the mouth. Several describe food that arrived hot, freshly made and generously portioned, and one likes that the children's menu is smaller portions of the adult dishes. Service is called welcoming and friendly, including on busy Saturday and Sunday evenings, and the pub is described as cosy, with quiet music and low lighting. Dog owners say the pub really is dog friendly, and guests who stayed mention a comfortable bed and a freshly cooked breakfast. One reviewer suggests booking ahead because space is limited. The only gap raised is on the menu, where a vegan diner found nothing listed, yet the kitchen still made a starter and two mains they loved.

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely outstanding! Four of us visited The Pyne Arms in Barnstaple for food and drinks, and we honestly couldn’t fault it. We had the steaks, Scotch eggs and crème brûlée, and every single dish was absolutely outstanding. The steaks were cooked perfectly, the Scotch eggs were spot on, and the crème brûlée was the perfect way to finish the meal. Great food, plenty of drinks, a brilliant atmosphere and excellent service — exactly what you want from a proper pub. All four of us left extremely happy and already talking about coming back. Highly recommended — 10/10 from us! 🥩🍻🔥”

“Without a doubt, one of the best pubs we've ever eaten in! We chose to eat in the pub rather than the conservatory because we were after a cosy atmosphere, which was exactly what experienced. The service was welcoming, friendly, and attentive throughout. The food was the real star of the show. The menu had an exciting selection of dishes to choose from, which all sounded delicious. I started with the cheese soufflé, followed by the Homity pie, and finished with the berries roulade, which was absolutely to die for. Everything tasted freshly made from scratch and beautifully cooked by a very talented chef. Even the chips were incredible – perfectly cooked- they just melted in the mouth! We were also really impressed with the children's menu. Rather than typical frozen kids' food, it was simply smaller portions of the adult menu, which we loved. At £7.95 for the kids' burger and £2.50 for a childrens scoop of ice cream we felt this was very reasonably priced. There was also a lovely selection of ales, ciders and stout, along with a decent wine list. And theres plenty of parking in the car park outside. If you are visiting north devon I would definitely recommend visiting here. Make sure you book ahead, as it's understandably popular and space is limited. We were only disappointed that it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as otherwise we would almost certainly have eaten here more than once during our holiday. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Devon!”

“Sometimes when you book the very last table on a Sunday, items have run out or are of lesser quality…….. NOT SO HERE! Despite being extremely busy, the service, food and genuine hospitality shown by everyone was absolutely top notch. Superb value for money, generous portions and delighting each and every customer come naturally to the Pyne Arms team and this is a place I wished I lived closer to. First class in every way and so glad we visited, would 💯 recommend. Having working in the industry for all of my career, I’m a picky customer at times but there was absolutely nothing that could be faulted. Thank you for an exemplary experience 👌🏼”

“Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home the moment we walked through the door. As for the food, there is only one word for it: incredible! Every dish was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with great care. The pub itself is stunning—beautifully maintained, full of character, and with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stay all evening. It's the perfect combination of outstanding food, excellent service, and a wonderful setting. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal.”
