About The Moon & Sixpence
The Moon & Sixpence is a British restaurant and village pub at 9 Main St in Banbury. The indoor dining room has a beamed ceiling and a stove-style fireplace, and the team serves at the table. The menu covers gastropub and grill dishes, with Sunday roasts of lamb, pork and beef that come with sides such as cauliflower cheese. A set menu runs alongside a light bites menu. A private dining room is available for groups, and dogs are welcome, with an outside area where they can get water. A garden at the rear has parasols and large old trees for shade, and hanging baskets and flower planters decorate the exterior and the car park. The car park holds roughly 15 spaces.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Sunday roast, with lamb, pork and beef mentioned alongside a short rib version described as fall off the bone tender, and cauliflower cheese and roasted beetroot picked out as sides. Close behind are the set and table d'hote menus, where haddock fish cakes, salmon and a chicken and ham pie in light pastry are named, with crème brûlée, profiteroles, cheesecake and malva pudding among the desserts. The flower displays on the baskets, car park and garden tables come up repeatedly, and several reviewers describe the staff as friendly and attentive. One group of 18 ate together thanks to fast service, and a hot buffet at a wake was called more than enough. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who ordered light bites: the dim sum was frozen deep fried pieces including a mini samosa, the cod bites were battered mush, and the calamari was four tiny pieces. Most of it went back, and staff refunded the order kindly. Another reviewer found only one draught ale.

“This place was recommended to us, we were not disappointed. Visually on arrival it was very inviting. The exterior was full of character, lots of beautiful hanging baskets, and the garden continued through the outdoor seating area and around the car park. There is roughly 15 spaces maybe a few more. When we arrived we were escorted to our table. However, we decided to eat outside, as it was a fabulous day. The staff were very friendly. We both had Sunday roasts, I had the lamb, my partner had the pork, extra side of cauliflower cheese. When the food arrived, the plates were nice and hot, the food was presented very well. There was ample food to enjoy which we both did. Additionally, we had deserts, cheesecake which were a delight. The menu choice was good and varied. Furthermore, this place is dog friendly, there is an area outside where your pooches can have some water. If your passing through or have an appreciation for old pubs with lots of character and good home cooked food, then I believe this place is definitely worth a visit.”

“Honestly this is such a nice pub, gorgeous garden with lovely flowers but the food we got was awful. We ordered some sharing bits from the light bites menu and couldn't believe how bad it was. The dim sum was three pieces of deep fried frozen shop bought bites including a mini samosa which is not Chinese din sum. The cod bites were worse than frozen Iceland fish fingers it was rectangular brown mush battered. The calamari was four tiny pieces of battered squid. The tempura broccoli was not delicate light battered tenderstem broccoli as expected but it was at least edible. We had to send most of it back, the only things we kept were the broccoli, chips and onion rings. The staff were so super kind and helpful about and they did refund us, but there is no excuse for food that bad in such a nice pub.”

“Met up with friends for lunch at this pub which is roughly halfway between where we both live. The first that hits you is the amazing display of flowers. As well as the flowers in the photos there are just as many at the front & side of the pub - absolutely stunning. The food & service were excellent. As it was a very sunny day we sat outside where we could enjoy the flowers even more.”

“A beautiful country pub! The flower baskets are phenomenal and adorn the whole outside of the pub, all the outside seating areas and the carpark! We had a Wake there and the hot buffet was amazing and more than enough for our party. The staff were very pleasant and went out of their way to make sure we were attended to.”
