About The Old Auctioneer
The Old Auctioneer is a restaurant in central Banbury, set in a 500-year-old listed building at 44 Parson's St. The kitchen cooks homemade comfort food to order, and chicken wings are sold by the kilo in buffalo and BBQ flavours. Dough balls come as a starter, and a pulled pork sandwich sits among the mains. Inside, the walls and rooms carry pieces from old forts, Spanish galleons and wooden ammunition crates. An upstairs room can be reserved for groups, and parties of more than 8 can phone or email the team to arrange a booking.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return above all for the chicken wings, with the buffalo and BBQ versions singled out and one noting they come by the kilo, plus a Sunday night wings special. Close behind are the pulled pork sandwich, pizzas, dough balls, a chicken schnitzel Caesar salad, chicken kabobs, and desserts like the cheesecake and pavlova, with a mango daiquiri and the lemonade also praised. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, including with a large group upstairs and a birthday table, and the old building, outdoor space with heaters and decor of old forts and galleon pieces draw comment. The recurring caveat is pace and consistency. One diner felt rushed, with two staff asking to take their order within minutes, a wrong dish that was later corrected, steak fries spilling off the dish, and a menu that seemed narrower than before. Another notes slow drinks in busy periods, and one found the loaded pork fries a little dry, easily fixed by asking staff for sauce. Reviewers close on moments like a table found for a solo diner in a crowded room.

“I have been to The Auctioneer several times and I have always enjoyed the food, the service, and the thriving atmosphere but, and there always can be a but....... on the evening of 08/08/26 I arrived with my partner because I had booked a table for 18.30. We were shown to a table. Within 5 minutes a waiter in an Hawaiian printed shirt asked if we were ready to order. The answer was clearly no. Another waitress came to the table 5 minutes later and asked the same question. I was ready to order. The food arrived very quickly but it was not what I had ordered. The mistake was rectified. Unfortunately this time around I thought that the menu was not as varied as in the past but, pizzas, burgers, nachos, wings? were plentiful on the menu, but that was it. The young waitress placed the meal on the table, said enjoy and walked off. I ordered a sweet to share and that arrived very quickly and it was quickly placed on the table. In summary, it was very rushed and the service staff all seemed to be busy( I think). For the main course we added steak fries chips?.Sadly when they arrived many had fallen out of the dish and were presented with several chips lying on the plate. (oh well, perhaps my expectations were too high but, taking into account, the price of the meal, the service, and the menu, it all just seemed slapdash and perhaps passed it,s sell by date.”

“I can’t recommend this place highly enough, The Food is truly delicious my Pulled Pork Sandwich was excellent the meat literally melted in my mouth the BBQ sauce was a delight, The accompanying Chips were crisp with a light fluffy centre, The Staff were attentive but not over intrusive polite and very personable, The whole place is clean and tastefully decorated including the Disabled Toilet which has a Chandelier! , The Vibe is unhurried relaxed and welcoming, Don’t pass this delightful pub by you’ll miss out on a treat! .”

“Such a lovely place. Their bbq & buffalo wings were delightful, we also had the loaded fries with pork which was good but a little dry, not a problem though, easy to just ask for some sauce from the lovely and attentive staff. The desserts were absolutely heavenly, we very much enjoyed the cheesecake & pavlova. Mango daquiri is a 10/10, would happily drink 10 of those. lovely decor, intimate lighting and good music.”
