About Beijing Palace Restaurant

Beijing Palace Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant at 112 The St in Ashtead, serving an extensive menu of many different dishes. An all-you-can-eat menu runs once a week alongside it. The kitchen prepares Hong Kong style sweet and sour, pork dumplings and sizzling mixed seafood, and it caters for gluten-free requests. The dining room is small, with tables seated close together, and only a couple of staff work the floor, so waits are common at busy times. Parking is limited, with some spaces out front on Ashtead High Street.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the dumplings, with the pork dumplings so good one table ordered a second portion. Close behind are the sizzling mixed seafood, special fried rice, Hong Kong style chef's special ribs and chicken chow mein, described as packed with flavour. Several mention the all you can eat menu and generous portions, and one notes gluten free needs are catered for. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one reviewer was converted despite not being a big fan of Chinese food. Steady streams of takeaway customers and locals are noted. The complaints are about delivery and consistency. One diner on New Year's Eve waited an hour and forty minutes for two courses while takeaway customers were handed wine and apologies, then received no apology with a service charge on the bill. Another reports sometimes long waits, limited parking and a poor phone system. A separate reviewer found the chili beef a tomato and water sauce, with freezer chips, no egg fried rice and a freezing cold dish. One reviewer notes the tables sit close together.

“Gutted! Went here NYE and waited an hour and forty minutes for 2 courses. Won't be going back anymore. I know it was busy as it was NYE but all the time we were there there were at least 10 sets of people waiting for takr aways. The emphasis was put on the take away service and I noticed they were being given a bottle of wine ans being apologised to once their meal was ready. The couple next to us had drunk their wine before their meal arrived, they were really unhappy too. 2 sweet teenage girls were taking orders and seating people, they had clearly taken on too much, I really think they should just focus on take aways or restaurants on nights like this. We were looking forward to our meal but by the time it arrived we just wanted to go. When we received the bill, no apology and a service charge of £4.80...”
