Customer Review Summary

Sunday roast is the main draw, with diners singling out tender lamb, juicy beef, and pork belly with crunchy skin, plus roast potatoes cooked in beef dripping, rich gravy, and mint sauce. Pavlova, gooseberry tart, and lemon tart come up as the way to finish. Close behind is the set menu, where reviewers praise the wagyu burger with skinny fries, the fishcake starter, heritage carrot gnocchi, garlic risotto, ribeye, and sticky toffee pudding with gingerbread ice cream. Cocktails and the wine list earn repeated mentions, and one host celebrated a milestone birthday with a garden barbecue lunch and cocktails. Service is described as friendly and attentive throughout, with waiters topping up glasses from a carafe left at the table. Several call the set menu fair value for the quality, and one reviewer advises booking ahead for the roast. One pair of diners ordered a second round of warm sourdough just for the maple butter.

“Absolutely superb - best price / quality ratio in anywhere I’ve been to in England. The heritage carrot gnocchi was to die for, I’d go back again tomorrow if I could.”

“Absolutely amazing Sunday roast. I'm a Michelin starred chef and to be honest I'd rate this meal as one of my finest to date. Roasties were another level with the use of beef dripping to get that crispness. Roast pork belly with the crunchy skin done to perfection and the beef so ye der and juicy something ud pay in london at 50pc more. Kew up the good work Griffin!”

“Five Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ AN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING 75TH BIRTHDAY AT THE GRIFFIN A huge and heartfelt thank you to Joe, Harry, Audrey, Abby and the entire team at The Griffin for making my 75th birthday celebration such an incredibly special and memorable occasion. I hosted around 35 family and friends for a barbecue lunch, cocktails and drinks in the garden, and from beginning to end, the whole experience was quite simply first class. The setting could not have been better. We were blessed with a beautiful sunny summer’s day, and The Griffin’s garden was the perfect venue relaxed, stylish and wonderfully welcoming. But what really made the day exceptional was the people. Joe, Harry and every single member of staff were absolutely brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. The service was warm, attentive, professional and incredibly friendly throughout. Looking after 35 guests while making everything appear effortless is no small achievement, but the team managed it superbly. They didn’t simply serve us they helped create the atmosphere that made the whole afternoon so enjoyable. The food was outstanding, beautifully prepared and of the highest quality. The barbecue was a huge success, and the cocktails were exceptional and certainly received plenty of enthusiastic approval from my guests! When you bring together great food, excellent drinks, a beautiful garden, glorious sunshine and a team of people who genuinely care about their guests, you have all the ingredients for a very special occasion. The Griffin delivered on every single one of them and then some. At 75, you accumulate quite a few memories along the way, but this is a birthday I will remember for a very long time. Judging by all the wonderful comments I received afterwards, my guests felt exactly the same. So, Joe, Harry and the Griffin “THANK YOU”. You helped turn an important milestone into a truly wonderful celebration. I could not have asked for more. I would wholeheartedly recommend The Griffin to anyone looking for somewhere special for lunch, dinner, drinks or an landmark celebration. Fabulous food, superb cocktails, a wonderful setting and, above all, exceptional people and exceptional service. Five stars without hesitation although after the day you gave us, five hardly seems enough so it’s a 10! Chris Owen

“A lovely Sunday roast menu. Definitely a cut above the average. Superb quality beef and pork and vegetables cooked to perfection with lovely herbs and sauces. For desert we had gooseberry tart and lemon tart both of which were delicate and delicious. Nice friendly abd attentive service too.”

“Short review: Based on recommendations, my expectations for The Griffin’s sunday roast were unreasonably high. But I can now happily say those expectations were more than met! If you want a proper English roast with a classy and flavourful touch, The Griffin’s got you covered. Lovely, professional staff and food that’s to die for! Long review: Me and my dad have visited London many times before, but we’d never had a proper Sunday Roast. So this time we decided to go for it. I wanted it to be a true experience so I did some research to figure out where to go. Through Harrison’s Webb YouTube video on The Best Sunday Roast, I stumbled upon The Griffin in Amersham. Getting there from London centre does ensure you get acquainted with all the stops of the Metropolitan Line, but it’s well worth it. Given that their sunday roasts are quite popular, I’d booked a table in advance (highly recommended!). Even though we were half an hour early, we were greeted by the lovely staff who gave us a seat right away. All throughout our dining experience, we were well looked after and served with care and enthusiasm. So special thank you to the servers! Then on to what we came all the way down here for: the food. Generally speaking we’re not really keen on lamb but in Harrison’s video, he specifically mentioned the lamb was exquisite. So given the spirit of the day we decided to go full-on British and order the lamb. Best choice we could have made. Everything on the table was so flavourful! The lamb was tender but succulent, roasted to perfection. The gravy (with extra on the side) and the mint sauce especially were the icing on the cake. The roasted potatoes were some of the best I’ve ever had (that crispy skin with the herbs!!) and all the vegetables (the carrots in particular) were the prefect accompaniement to this dish. Throw in their pavlova to finish on a light sweet note and I was plainly stated just a very, very happy and grateful girl. So in short, nothing but praise for both the food and the staff! Gutted that we only had one Sunday to spend in London, but so grateful we got to spend it this way. It’s places and experiences like this that make travelling unforgettable. When we come back to London, this one will undoubtebly be back on the list!”
