  “The burger was so disappointing. It looked great, but tasted as if it was a frozen patty, without any seasoning and slightly overcooked. Had to leave half of it, and the member of staff said she would tell the chef, but I got the impression that she wasn't really that bothered. My partner had the SeBass and that was also slightly overcooked and the sauce again was not seasoned well and bland.”

  “We visited for Sunday lunch (4 people) on 9/8/26 and unfortunately left disappointed. The service was slow, with around a 50-minute wait for our mains. There also seemed to be some confusion from the staff, including thinking side dishes were a starter. Overall, we didn't find the service particularly warm or welcoming. The food was underwhelming. Three of us ordered the Sunday roast, and while the portions were good, the roast potatoes were leathery and both the lamb and beef were overcooked. The vegetarian roast was acceptable but nothing memorable. The cauliflower cheese tasted freshly made but lacked flavour. The burger looked great when it arrived, but the bun was very thick and dry, making it difficult to eat, and my daughter ended up leaving much of it. The restaurant also lacked much atmosphere, and our seating wasn't particularly comfortable, although we may simply have been unlucky with our table. Overall, we expected a much better experience”

  “We really enjoyed our visit to The Priest Hole. We booked a table in advance on fish night. The main meal of Cod with chorizo on a cassoulet of vegetables was delicious with a fantastic bottle of wine. We also enjoyed a delicious baileys creme brulee & the cheese board was excellent! (We've just travelled through France & it was far superior to any we had there). The staff were friendly & we look forward to visiting again when we are in the area! 😋”

  “Our continuing travels to England with my wife we were in Ambleside UK. Stopped in this pub for dinner at The Priest Hole Restaurant. There is a great story behind this name. See photos. The Place is straight up medieval. The food was great; some more pictures. I had the steak and ale pie. My drink was a great bitter ale. Don’t judge, it’s great. My wife had salmon, which she said was delicious. The service was fine also. If you’re ever in the Lake District area of the UK stop in. Highly recommend.”

  “We visited a couple of weeks ago for my boyfriend’s birthday. When we arrived they had arranged a banner and balloon and a sparkler in his cake which was so thoughtful. The service was brilliant and the food delicious. We didn’t feel rushed at all and had a wonderful experience. Would recommend to anyone visiting Ambleside. Thank you”

  “Quite sad knowing that I wont be able to visit for a few years now. Service was amazing as well as the Sunday roast. Save space for dessert. I had the chocolare mousse and it was amazing. everyone at a diferent one on the table and each one was lovely.”

  “This is a brilliant place! The wait staff and friendly and funny. The food is lovely and very filling. We had a Sunday lunch, it’s not one that sits heavy on your stomach but has a good range of veg, meat and potatoes that it leaves you revived after a long walk! There is no onsite parking but the council provide plenty of pay and display around the village, which are in walking distance.”

  “Full of 500 year old warmth character and charm. Great location. Cozy charming ambiance. Busy place. Booking for dinner highly recommend. No cellar so nothing on tap. Just FYI. The onion rings maybe the best I have ever had. Actually. The ribeye with prawns 🍤 in butter was very good.”

  “Stopped here for a lovely roast dinner after a long walk in the lakes, and was not disappointed. The roast dinner is the best I’ve ever had, and plentiful too. Staff were lovely and so welcoming, coming on a Sunday with no table booked we were worried we may not find anywhere but were welcomed and seated immediately. Will definitely return for another roast, one I will not be forgetting!”

  “We booked the table through Quandoo. The process is straight forward and the table was well prepared when we arrive. The restaurant is so popular and advanced booking is probably a must. The food is fabulous. I could not describe how we enjoyed the venison steak. That is something that will stay in our memories for a very long time. I hope they also include a piece of bread so I do not left even a single bit of the wonderful sauce on the plate. This dish is not on the regular menu so try your luck. The pudding is also a must as advised by many of the comments here and they are definitely telling the truth. Service and vibe are all perfect. Not too much, just perfect. Definitely will go again when we visit the intimate little town of Ambleside again.”
