“Improved lots since our last visit. Far more comfy , refined and welcoming. The food is superb and utilises as much as cumbria and the local area as possible. Its far more refined now with lots of attention to detail, presentation and quality. Running at a perfect Michelin star level in every way. Wine, lots of choice and as expected, we went overboard. Service , professional and very friendly. All in all, a superb evening around food , drink and good people.”

“The fish dishes on the tasting menu were really good: the chalk stream trout and the halibut. The ale bread and later the sops dessert were also so so tasty. We paid £125 per person on food. We couldnt afford the wine flight on top this time, so can’t say what that was like! I learned after booking it had a Michelin star so go figure. The service we had was great and I was really pleased when a question I had about the trout led to the chef coming out and providing the answer. It’s easy to feel like you don’t belong in a setting like this if you’re new to it, and thus feel like you won’t be taken seriously, but we absolutely were. I was also heartened by the earnest commitment from the chef to ethics and sustainability around produce. I left feeling quietly full rather than hungry or stuffed, which was also nice. We’d done two big walks that day, too.”

“A fantastic dining experience, with excellent food from start to finish. The standout for us was the selection of starter appetisers, which were full of flavour and set the tone for the meal beautifully. The service was equally impressive. The team were attentive, knowledgeable and couldn’t have been more accommodating when it came to my shellfish allergy, which made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. It’s always a good sign when a restaurant gets both the food and the hospitality right. The Old Stamp House certainly delivered on both.”
