Quick info
About Misto
Misto is a traditional Italian restaurant in Ambleside, at 9 Compston Rd, with a brick-lined dining room. The kitchen makes its gluten-free pizza from scratch, so guests who avoid gluten have a pizza to order alongside the rest of the menu. Pizza and pasta make up the core of the menu, with seafood linguine among the pasta dishes and lasagne for those who prefer a baked classic. Tiramisu is on hand for dessert, and an Irish coffee can finish the meal. The dining room is air-conditioned.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the gluten free pizza, which two diners call the best they have had, one noting it is rare to find one made from scratch. Pasta comes close behind, with the lasagne described as one of the best a diner has had and the seafood linguine called better than one reviewer's local. Others praise the goats cheese pizza, the ribeye, the tiramisu and an Irish coffee they found unique. Food is repeatedly called fresh, with big portions, and one reviewer says the garlic bread starter is the size of a small pizza. Several describe the staff as friendly, and a few mention the air conditioning as a relief. The one caveat is a wait one diner called slightly long, though they felt the freshness justified it. A reviewer also clarifies that dogs are only allowed in the outside seating. One group arriving half an hour before closing was seated without any problem.

“Wow! We came here for our first dinner in Ambleside and we made the best choice. Every item we ordered was delicious, and fresh. Portion sizes were great and the atmosphere and service was kind too! We would definitely come back here!”

“Lovely dinner on a misty evening. Staff was friendly and attentive but not overly so. Food was delicious and fresh. Beware if ordering garlic bread as a starter, it is the size of small pizza! Leave room for your meal :)”

“Wow what a great place! We came here for my dad’s 60th birthday (5 of us) and the menu was varied and offered something to everyone’s taste. The wait was slightly long but so worth it for the freshness of the food. My mum said the lasagne is one of the best she’s ever had. They didn’t skimp on portions, offering plenty of value for the price. Would definitely be back!”

“It’s my second time in Lake District with my friend, for this time, we looking for a local restaurant and we found this place. They have a lovely decoration and air conditioner We had a good seafood test and pasta, is very yummy. I really enjoy it, and my friend as well. If you have any chance to go to Lake District must try this restaurant “Misto””

“Mixed reports onljne whether Misto is dog friendly, so for clarity dogs are not allowed inside at all so only outside seating available if you have a dog with you so bear this in mind if the weathers bad. The food and the service was really good, in fact it’s the best we’ve had so far in Ambleside on our penultimate night. Our group had a mixture of pasta dishes and pizzas and everyone was really happy with their food. My wife is gluten free and felt that the gluten free pizza at Misto was brilliant and the best she’s had in a restaurant. A special nod goes to the Tiramisu which was delicious. We would definitely visit Misto again when we return to Ambleside.”
