About Girl & The Goat

Girl & The Goat is a New American restaurant in Chicago where chef-owner Stephanie Izard serves innovative small plates from a dramatic open kitchen. The format centers on shareable dishes that draw on vegetable-forward cooking and bold global flavors, with brunch and seafood rounding out the menu. Among the signature plates, the Wood Oven Roasted Pig Face highlights the kitchen's offal-forward approach, the Sticky Glazed Pork Shank delivers rich, slow-cooked depth, and the Chickpea Fritters offer a popular plant-based option. Reservations are advised, especially for seats with a view of the open kitchen.

Customer Review Summary

Diners consistently single out the Wood Oven Roasted Pig Face as the standout dish, praising its perfect mix of textures and unusual flavors. Close behind, the Sticky Glazed Pork Shank draws repeated praise for its fall-off-the-bone tenderness and crunchy shallot crust, while the sautéed green beans and goat empanadas are called addictive and perfectly balanced. Reviewers describe the small, family-style plates as bold and heavily seasoned, sometimes surprisingly spicy, and note that portions are larger than typical tapas. The Goat Fashioned and espresso martinis earn high marks at the bar. The sole recurring complaint is cramped seating, with one group noting they had to request a move from an extremely tight table despite open availability, and another diner expressing disappointment that a noted birthday celebration was entirely overlooked. Several reviewers suggest securing reservations well ahead of time. Meals frequently close on a sweet note, with the chocolate pistachio cheesecake singled out as a perfect ending, or a surprise birthday treat brought out by the staff.

An awesome spot in Chicago’s west loop/Fulton market area. Reservations are needed but we were able to go last minute and found seats at the bar where they have the full menu. Everything was incredible and portions were large enough to share. Highly recommend the goat empanadas

An unforgettable dining experience in the West Loop! We loved the bold experiments and flavor combinations on the menu. The dishes were incredibly delicious, especially the Wood Oven Roasted Pig Face and the Goat Liver Mousse, which were …

Love the food and the family style servings. We had the naan with tzatziki, shrimp salad was amazing, chicken skewers and green beans which are a must! Overall the shrimp salad and green beans were my favorite by far, a good mix of freshness and flavorful elements.

We have been twice. Both times were fabulous. Pigface is a must have. However every dish has unusual yet amazing flavors. I would say it is like a tasting menu restaurant that you order à la carte. The service is spot on. I would say if you can afford it go!

After hearing so much about the Girl & The Goat, I finally made it! It’s awesome that an amazing restaurant like this is still innovating and offering great food for more than 15 years. It’s no wonder that other restauranteurs have followed suit and established this area as restaurant row in the West Loop. Since we were all looking forward to this reservation, we made sure to try as many things as we could. We ordered multiple items that are to be shared family style. We opted for the pita & dips, chickpea fritters, sautéed green beans, roasted asparagus, pan roasted halibut, and sticky glazed pork shank. Their house Manhattan was a little sweeter than I’m used to, but it was delicious, and my mom thoroughly enjoyed her espresso martini. Since three out of the four of us were celebrating birthdays, the staff even surprised us with a sweet treat to end the meal. The interior of the restaurant was dimly lit and inviting. It was a total vibe. However, the weather was perfect so I was happy. They had a wonderful patio option. Their staff was absolutely top-notch.
