  “I absolutely loved this place! It has a classic Chicago vibe with plenty of character, making it a fun and memorable spot to dine. The personal-sized deep dish pizza was the perfect option and packed with great flavor. The salads were an unexpected highlight—fresh, flavorful, and honestly better than some I've had at upscale steakhouses downtown.   “One of the classic Chicago restaurants in this part of town (along with Miller's). You feel like you've traveled back in time 100 years, since the interior reminds you of old movies from that era. The food selection is great—meat, pizzas, burgers, you name it—and everything tastes very good. Even when the restaurant is fully packed, the service is efficient and handles the crowd perfectly.”

  “Loved loved loved the Tavern style pizza - they cut the larger pizzas into squares which make it very easy to pick up and eat. The smaller pizzas are cut into wedges. Great booth seating, old style ambiance.”

  “Exchequer Restaurant & Pub is an absolute five-star staple in downtown Chicago. If you love incredible comfort food paired with fascinating local history, this beloved institution delivers a truly memorable experience. What sets this place apart is its legitimate 1920s gangster history. Long before it became the Exchequer, the venue operated as the 226 Club—a notorious Prohibition-era speakeasy and brothel frequented and run by Al Capone himself. The walls are packed with captivating vintage newspaper clippings and mobster memorabilia, and if you look closely, you can still feel that old-school Chicago energy radiating through the space. Everything is approachable, non-pretentious with a menu that completely shines. They offer an amazing selection of classic pub staples, including spectacular burgers, fall-off-the-bone ribs, and their signature, award-winning deep-dish pizza that gives the big tourist chains a serious run for their money. My wife and I both loved the pizza. The service is equally fantastic; the staff is warm, efficient, and always happy to chat about the building's storied past. It is the perfect, unpretentious spot to grab a great meal and a piece of Chicago lore.”

  “Very authentic and nice restaurant. It is the old hangout spot of Al Capone, and you can see the booth he used to sit in. Ask the staff to show you his escape door to the underground tunnels. I had the ribs and deep dish pizza; they are both amazing.”
