About The William Dampier
The William Dampier is a pub at 97 Middle St in Yeovil, next to the bus station. It opens daily and serves breakfast through the morning, with eggs on the plate. Tea and Lavazza coffee come with free refills all day, every day, so one order covers as many cups as you want. Later in the day the kitchen turns to gourmet burgers, freshly made pizzas and boneless basket chicken, with vegetarian choices and deli deal options alongside. An afternoon deal also runs between lunch and dinner. The bar pours real ales, craft beers and gins, plus soft drinks. Orders are placed at the bar, and the team brings food out to numbered tables. The kitchen sits on display in a revamped interior.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for affordable, well-cooked food, with breakfast singled out as tasty and prompt, and one diner praising the eggs. Close behind is friendly service, with several saying staff go above and beyond. A couple note cheap drinks and a decent atmosphere. The welcome is not universal, though. One reviewer calls the bar staff dismissive, another describes a server's sarcastic reply to praise for the breakfast, and a third says an order dragged on because the till would not accept tables without numbers. Others mention overcooked, hard boneless basket chicken, loud Christmas music, and a revamp that left the bar too bright and generic, with the kitchen on display. Still, the kindest moments are specific. One parent says the chef treated a salad without tomatoes or bacon like an allergy order and boxed the leftovers, and a cyclist says staff quickly mopped up a spilled coffee and folded a foil wrap for oversized small plates when no doggy bag was available.

“Boneless basket chicken was a bit over cooked and hard. Service was excellent , Fabian and Jared are amazing. Always very friendly and go above and beyond. Jared always sorts out any problems in a professional manner. Excellent atmosphere. Cheap and cheerful.”

“Taisha and many of the other staff in Wetherspoons Yeovil were exceptional tonight. They went over board to provide us with difficult orders. They were fantastic with my autistic daughter and they were extremely busy and I was being a nuisance unintentionally. I had ordered my daughter a drink and forgot not to add ice which they were very happy to remove and top up and refused to drink. I ordered a salad without tomatoes and bacon, not because I don’t like it but because I am having cancer treatment and am not allowed it. The chef came to the table and reassured me that it had been prepared well away and was as clean as they could possibly get it and treated my meal as an allergy. Our meals were lovely bar staff great and all staff were very helpful as we forgot our reading glasses and they helped us with the menus. Nothing was too much trouble x Thank you so much for your five star service above and beyond! We will be back but with glasses next time. Food is good value and good quality. Due to my treatment my appetite is low. I couldn’t eat much so they gave me a box to take it home too.”

“I used to fly 5,500 miles to enjoy ending up here from California. It's not just the quality on food ~but~ the people that work here. Jared knows how to knock out a home run, Ben, you too. I find this place a part of home, welcoming , great quality food, and prestige service. Fantastic place, thank you William for having this on my grounds. Hospitality once you get indulged here doesn't have a star/ review to equate. Never walk away a loss 10/10”

“The Good: The food was actually great—hot, fresh, and exactly what you’d expect for the price. The drinks were cheap and the atmosphere was decent. The Bad: The service is the weak link. Bar staff was dismissive and seemed like they didn't want to be there. Verdict: Come for the cheap eats, but don’t expect a warm welcome.”
