Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is the most frequent draw, with diners praising the choice of meats, plenty of fresh vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding described as perfect, and one appreciating the option of a smaller roast. Close behind are the rooms, called quiet, clean and well-equipped with luxurious bedding, along with breakfast and dinner described as faultless or superb. The views, the spacious garden and the sunsets come up repeatedly, as do staff described as friendly and helpful. Otter Ale and the beer are singled out as excellent. The complaints are specific. One Sunday diner found the trio of meats uneven, with overdone chicken, soft roast potatoes and lukewarm plates. Another objected to separate indoor and outdoor menus, patio food in polystyrene boxes, and a sharer arriving with the mains, and said returning it led to a rude argument. One guest notes the rooms sit close together, so a noisy neighbour is easily heard. One group's birthday meal ended with a special sweet and a candle.

“We stayed at Winyards Gap for a weekend and the accommodation was perfect. The room was super cosy, really clean, and well-equipped. It was also round the corner to the pub which meant it felt private, quiet, and secluded, which was lovely. The food (we ate at the pub for both dinner and breakfast) was amazing. And the staff were wonderful - they were friendly, helpful, and nothing was ever too much trouble.”

“Excellent service, attentive, swapped tables with no problems, like the choice of a smaller roast dinner as we had eaten breakfast so it could've been a waste. Good was lovely. Will definitely be back. Maybe a stay over.”

“Popped over for Sunday dinner. The location, the pub itself and the staff, were all really lovely but the roast dinner, whilst tasty, was a little underwhelming. I had the trio of meats; the lamb and beef were cooked well, but the chicken was overdone, the roast potatoes were hidden under the meats and veg, and so had become a little on the soft side and the everything could have done with being much hotter (it was as though the food had been plated and left standing for a while before being served). Whilst we really enjoyed our meals, when having lunch out, comes with a price tag of over £100 (and for us, is something we can only afford a once-in-a-while as a family), the experience didn't quite match the expectation. Saying that, it was our first time visiting, we really liked the location, the venue and the staff were lovely and attentive, so we will be back again in the new year for another go!”

“Popped in for dinner on the way home from visiting family in Exmoor. Food was pretty good beer was excellent service very good. We had 2 main courses ( £20 each ). Quality and quantity fabulous, good value. Premises clean and well presented. Toilets all good.”

“We booked a meal for a large group to celebrate my birthday. We had pre-dinner drinks, including Otter Ale in perfect condition, overlooking a magnificent view. The food was excellent and the service first class. Vegetarian options were imaginative and well-executed. To cap it all they brought a special sweet and candle for my birthday! Highly recommended.”
