Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise generous portions of traditional pub food, especially plated Sunday beef and pork described as tender and tasty with plenty of veg, plus mash and red cabbage alongside a mushroom pie. Close behind, staff are called friendly and smiley, and dogs are made to feel as welcome as their owners. Drinks draw notice too, including Dartmoor IPA, a house stout and Sampford Orchards cider on tap. Loaded fries and the chocolate brownie are singled out, while one reviewer would not recommend the plume burger. The menu is called limited, and another found the chicken goujons pricey for what looked like frozen food. Kitchen service is the recurring complaint. One table had a long Saturday lunch wait, was told the BBQ chicken had run out, then received a tuna toastie without red onion and no apology. Another party was told the kitchen had just closed after ordering beers, and watched food keep going out to other tables while they finished their drinks.

“We arrived, set up a tab, ordered beers and asked for menu's. When we went to order we were told the kitchen had just closed 5 minutes ago. The kitchen closing soon wasn't mentioned at any point. I normally wouldn't grumble, but the attitude I got from the guy who gave us menus when I suggested he could have mentioned that when he gave us the menu was I was in the wrong as we had waited 20 minutes (max) to order. Watching them continue to bring food out for a further 20 minutes whilst we finished our drinks made it worse. Real shame, as seems like a nice pub, but the response received has caused me to write this review.”

“Great accommodation for camping with good toilet, showering and washing up facilities. Food was decent but would not personally recommend the plume burger. However the loaded fries and chocolate brownie were much better especially given the price. Ignore my friend bless his little cotton socks”

“Passing through so we thought we’d try for Sunday lunch. The carvery was shut for Sunday😥But they did have plated beef or chicken. We went for the beef and weren’t disappointed. Ample portions and the flavours were great. Staff were really helpful and polite. All in all a great experience 3rd May Back again. Didn’t fail to disappoint. Booked a table this time. All ready and waiting for us. Had the 2 meat option. Beef & Pork this time. Both were tender and tasty. Plenty of veg choices to accompany the meat. Another great meal, hopefully we’ll be back sooner next time.”

“We arrived at 13:25 and were initially impressed, the staff were friendly, welcoming and even took the time to engage with our dog, which was a nice touch. We ordered drinks a beer and a wine at 13:27, followed shortly after by food, two ciabatta baguettes BBQ chicken and tuna sweetcorn and some cheesy chips. At no point were we advised of any delays, especially considering the simplicity of the order. However, after waiting an hour, we were informed that there was no BBQ chicken available. We changed this to a tuna and red onion toastie instead. We did overhear that the head chef may have been on holiday. However, for an establishment that serves food, especially on a Saturday lunchtime, you would expect appropriate cover to be in place. To add to the frustration, other customers who ordered more than 45 minutes after us received their full orders before we did. When the food finally arrived, it was very disappointing. The tuna and sweetcorn ciabatta contained no sweetcorn, wasn’t served on ciabatta and there was also no slaw with the baguette. The tuna and red onion toastie also came without any red onion. We also received no apology for the lack of BBQ chicken, the extended wait or the incorrect food. Given the long wait, lack of communication and incorrect orders, the overall experience was extremely underwhelming. We paid and left feeling disappointed.”
