Customer Review Summary
Pork belly is the dish reviewers raise most, praised for its crackling and rich gravy, with the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding on the Sunday roast singled out as the best one diner had in a pub. Close behind are the crispy duck with pancakes, the deep-fried Brie, the goats cheese salad and the steak and chips. Reviewers describe friendly staff, good portions and quick service, and one party of 12 praised the seamless work Christmas lunch. Parking fills quickly, and one reviewer says they were turned away three times when busy and recommends booking beforehand. Criticisms are specific: one found the mash lukewarm, the chicken average and desserts and coffees slow to be offered, while another found the Thai red tiger prawn curry more sweet and sour, the prawns in the cocktail small and soft, and the pork belly sitting on overdone vegetables. One reviewer sent back an undercooked burger, and another called the toilets dated and reachable only by a step.

“For my starter, I had the crispy duck, which was amazing. For my main course, I chose the chicken Caesar salad, which was also delicious. There was a great selection, and the service was friendly and very fast. I really enjoyed my meal!”

“One of the most fantastic local pubs/restaurants in East Suffolk. The food was genuinely very very good. Well presented, great portion sizes, hot plates, clean cutlery, fresh meats/fish/salads & sauces etc. Great quality local ingredients -It is not expensive nor cheap, very well priced for the quality. My partner & I have been to many restaurants in Suffolk yet he still praises The Ufford Crown as having the best steak & chips in the county! The staff are very friendly, attentive, service is quick, no issues with ordering, great with allergies. The restaurants overall looks fab, well decorated, traditional with modern touches and very comfy seats. Access is great, the car park can become very full very quickly! Wheel chair access is also very good with a ramp available. Not a huge amount of parking , 100% recommend to book before hand, we've tried to come in 3x and been turned away as too busy which is such a shame even 30 after opening for lunch or dinner. Highly highly recommend, great variety of meals, snacks, starters and desserts. Will 110% be returning soon.”

“Judging by the rammed car park, this is a very popular venue for Sunday lunch. Our party of 12 had to book our table either at 12 noon or 4PM, such was the pressure on tables. Anyway, that works for me because the food tends to be fresher at the start of service although I would imagine the kitchen will be constantly refreshing as the day progresses. The greeting was very friendly, the service not 100%, but pretty good. Our main meals were ordered and served quickly, as were drinks, but they were somewhat tardy in coming round for desserts, coffees etc. My eyes popped at the charge for a pint of 0.5% Adnams Ghost Ship which was £6.20, considerably more than I have paid at other local venues. I opted for the Dingley Dell belly of pork (£23.50). This consisted of a very decent portion of pork belly with excellent crackling, plus the best roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding I have ever had in a pub. The accompaniments were billed as a '7 vegetable mash', green beans, savoy, broccoli and jus' Other members of our party opted for the rack of lamb (£28.50), the chicken breast (£23), the Thai red tiger prawn curry (£23.50) and the roast sirloin of beef (£25.50). Most were happy with their choices but the mash was lukewarm at best (tasted more like swede than anything else) and the chicken judged to be 'average'. What surprised me were the dreadful toilets, long overdue for modernisation and only accessed by a step, so totally unsuitable for those in a wheelchair. They have made an effort outside to aid access for disabled guests, but it is far from perfect with steep slopes and a small step to negotiate. Unforgivable in this day and age.”

“Extremely impressed with the quality of food, as well as the skill of the chef. For a so-called gastropub, this could easily be higher end restaurant in it's own right. Big old portions too! We were a party of 12 having a work Christmas lunch and it all felt seamless with little attentions to detail like a basket run to clear the cracker debris! So impressed. Thanks guys.”
