The Chip Inn
Quick info
About The Chip Inn
Chips arrive coated in a thin batter at The Chip Inn, a restaurant on Bilston Rd in Wolverhampton, and that batter carries across the menu as the base for plates like fish and chips and sausage and chips. Kebabs and donner meat sit alongside, including a mixed meat and chips option, and pizzas are sold from the same kitchen, so a group ordering together can split between chip shop plates and a pizza. Orders are taken at the counter without a reservation, and high chairs make it workable for families with young children who want to sit in. For eating off site, orders can be placed online for delivery, including through Just Eat. The doors open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Chips are the through line, described as freshly cooked, crispy, coated in a thin batter and, by one sceptical first-timer, not oily and never soggy despite an unpromising curry stained look. Close behind sit the fish and chips and the battered chips served with kebab, while others single out tasty chicken tikka meat and hot, fresh pizzas from a family run counter where staff are called friendly and courteous. The complaints are frequent and specific: one order arrived with watery, cold doner and pizzas burnt underneath and part raw, another diner found the batter soggy after delivery and the tinned roe off tasting, and a late-night visitor objected to mushy peas and scallops microwaved in front of them alongside a shouted conversation across the counter. One customer left over being charged extra for paying by card when the next person was not. Several who were happy say they will order again, and the delivery platform refunded the reviewer for the roe.

“Called in at 10pm and got some late lunch. Had fish and chips that were nothing special. With mushy peas that he microwaved in front of me. He also microwaved two scallops for us. All of this while two people had a screaming conversation over the counter in a foreign language. Won’t be going back.”

“The restaurant looked nice, but the dishes lacked flavor. Service was polite, but the overall experience was average.”

“I went in to get some food and I paid by card and they charged me a 20pence extra fee for card payment and just after me another person came in and paid by card and didnt get charged extra I find that so unfair so I wont be using this place no more lost my custom.”

“Ordered via Just eat quick delivery lovely friendly delivery driver, the fish and sausage chip meals were ok the batter could be a little crispier as was a little soggy but that may be because of it sweating whilst being delivered , but the tinned roe didn't taste right at all but just eat did refund me for the roe but everything else was fine but just wanted to make you aware please check the tinned roe as it had a very sweet off taste but happy overall with the order 🙂”
