About Shimla Balti
On Stafford Rd in Wolverhampton, Shimla Balti serves Indian food in a small dining room with just a few tables, open evenings only from Tuesday to Sunday and closed Mondays. It operates as BYOB, with no bar on site, and a small supermarket a few doors down covers drinks for anyone dining in. The kitchen runs both eat-in and takeaway service, with keema naan a recurring order alongside pilau rice as a side. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families with young children. Reservations are recommended given the limited seating. For those collecting food to go, free poppadoms with dip and onions are offered while orders are prepared.

Customer Review Summary
Curry is what keeps reviewers coming back, with several singling out standout dishes like the Chicken Tikka Pathia, Sheikh Kebab, and Tandoori Chicken Dolna, alongside sides like Bombay Aloo and keema naan. Many mention it's a small, easy-to-miss spot tucked among shops, with a friendly owner and generous, reasonably priced portions, and diners note it's BYOB with a nearby shop for topping up drinks. Service is repeatedly called attentive, and several reviewers say booking ahead is worthwhile given how busy it gets with takeaway orders. One recent reviewer, a regular work customer, reports the chicken jalfrezi had turned unusually salty on their last two orders and has held off ordering again hoping it improves. Another noted the onion salad was just plain onion. Most, though, describe going back happily, with one calling it their new favourite curry house after driving past for years before finally trying it.

“Not sure whats happened here but food has changed, usually order from here for work & usually spot on but the last 2 times the chicken Jalfrazi was so 'salty' 🧂, made it awful to eat. Will not be ordering from here for some time in the hopes more complaints will emerge & change it back?”

“Wonderful. In the area for work so popped in for a takeaway. A couple of free poppadoms, dip and onions were welcome, the nan was decent and the curry I chose and Bombay Aloo side were superb - one of the best curries I've had in the UK. There was one couple eating in while I waited and they made a point of getting the guy working there over to tell him how amazing their curry was as well so I wasn't alone. I almost never leave reviews, this place earned it. 10/10 would go back if ever in the area.”
