About The Ivy Windsor

The Ivy Windsor is a British restaurant at 31 High St in Windsor, with windows that look out over the Windsor Castle walls. Inside, green colours, plants and floral patterns give the room a secret-garden look. The kitchen serves fish and chips with vinegar, tartar sauce and lemon on a separate plate, and a full vegetarian and vegan menu runs alongside the main one. Service covers breakfast, a brunch set and afternoon tea, and a 1966 menu is also available. At the bar, the Ivy Royale is a rose and cucumber margarita. Dessert includes the Chocolate bombe.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often point to the setting, a beautifully decorated interior with a view of the Windsor Castle walls, described by one as a secret garden of green and plants, with washrooms several found stunning. Among the food, the fishcakes, crispy duck and watermelon salad, minute steak, French onion soup and chocolate bombe draw the warmest praise, along with an immunity smoothie at breakfast and a full vegan menu. Staff are generally called friendly and professional. The recurring complaint is fish and chips, where three reviewers report fishy fish, overdone or dry chips and soggy batter. Others mention slow service, such as having to ask for starters and mains, and one afternoon tea was faulted for a dry sandwich and unremarkable cakes. A few cocktail notes cite too much ice in the Ivy Royale. When one fish dish went wrong, it was taken back without questions and replaced, though the replacement took a while to arrive.

“We came to Ivy quite a lot back in 2022 and it was a great experience but we were disappointed this time. The starters were pleasant but we had fish and chips for our mains and the batter was soggy and not nice and the chips were very dry. A real shame but it feels like it's lost its magic to us Though it was still busy. The service is great here”

“I tried to make a comments to their websites but it seems impossible, So I rather to give a review here (google review). We had an afternoon tea yesterday 10/07/2026 with my husband at the Ivy Windsor. At first it was ok but the waitress shows a an very unfriendly approach to me. She instead like to speak my husband and ignored me (asian). The food was not worth it- big sandwich very dry, cakes are ok ( I tasted better). Whenever we ask an attention from the waitress they did not looked at you so I need to wave my hand to get their attention. I started to feel dissapointed. But I still ignored it. Most of the food (cakes) are not eaten. I ask the waitress if I can take it home which is fine to her to pack it but here is the photo of the cakes (it looks disgusting). I will not ever come back again to that restaurant not a very friendly atmosphere ( arrogant waitress and they want to service asian). The cakes looks disgusting so I throw them. I ask the waitress to pack my cakes in box because one cake is a bit liquid. But this is what she did put my cake in one box. Overall I am dissapointed.”

“Nice and spacious venue with a view on Windsor Castle curtain walls. We went for the 1966 menu as the Ivy Edition didn't appeal to us and we really enjoyed the lovely combination of crispy duck and watermelon salad and the minute steak was cooked to perfection. The service was professional and not overwhelming. There was a bit too much ice in the Ivy Royale and if it's not a spiced margarita you can drop the tajin rim and just go with salt or as it is a rose and cucumber margarita, rose syrup maybe? We still enjoyed the cocktails though”

“Millie was fantastic from start to finish. She was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive throughout our visit. She made us feel comfortable, was always ready to help, and ensured everything arrived promptly and exactly as ordered. Her friendly personality and excellent customer service truly stood out. Thank you, Millie, for making our experience so enjoyable! We would be happy to come back again.”

“This place was fantastic! We came in for an early dinner to escape the rain and the castle was closed. This place is beautifully decorated like a secret garden all green and plants everywhere. The food was fantastic! Get the chocolate bombe it was such a treat and absolutely worth it! We had such a fantastic view of the Windsor walls I'm so glad we stopped. It was easy to catch the Uber right out front too.”
