About Bird I'th Hand
At 1 Wigan Rd in Wigan, Bird I'th Hand is an old school pub that has been recently refurbished. A quiz night anchors the entertainment, with karaoke at times and live music alongside it, so the pub works for groups who come to take part as well as to drink. Screens show sports for anyone following a game. Dogs are welcome, which suits those who bring a pet along. The pub puts up Christmas decorations in the festive season.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the atmosphere, describing a friendly, lively room that is not too packed, with locals and a barmaid who made first-timers feel welcome. The Monday quiz night draws repeated praise, and others mention a Thursday quiz, karaoke, live music and sports on screen. Several say the pints are cheap and the beer selection is well chosen, and one notes that service at the bar stays quick even when it gets busy. Some say recent changes have turned the pub around, citing a refurbished look and Christmas decorations. Negatives are fewer but specific. One reviewer says it can attract some characters, and another felt pushed out as a new customer by what seemed like a clique. A further reviewer found that the advertised food had stopped, and was offered only one dry white wine option, which was sweet and warm.

“If you're into sports and like to get bladdered while watching then this place will definitely be to your liking. Top spot . Can't control how the public act out but it is what it is .”

“First time ever in this pub in all the years I've lived here. Friendly atmosphere from patrons and barmaid, made us feel very welcome.”

“Came in for a Monday quiz night was really good ... I came 3rd !! Always a good atmosphere every time I have been in. Apparently it's had a bad reputation in the past but in the last 3 months I've been here I really can't understand why. So I've bought my new years eve tickets today. Great decorations for Christmas too”

“Went here with my boyfriend and was originally having a good night. There was a woman who was extremely drunk and abusing other people - i.e. slapping a man (originally just thought this was typical drunken behaviour so didn't think too much of it at first). About an hour into being there, the drunk woman comes up to me and demands my ID (bearing in mind I'd already bought two drinks). She claimed to be a barmaid, so I gave her my ID but then she started to kick off with me and my boyfriend for absolutely no reason (again, she was absolutely bladdered), so we said we were leaving because we refused to be spoken to the way she was speaking to us. As we were leaving she started kicking off, screaming and told us that she didn't like us anyway and told us to leave. We weren't the only people she kicked off with, as she had gone around to another new customer (who had bought a non-alcoholic drink) and asked them for ID and still wasn't satisfied when shown. No bar maid should be getting that drunk in her own bar and kicking off with the customers. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and she should be extremely embarrassed and ashamed of herself. Don't go here if you're new customers, as she'll just kick you out anyway. Seems like they all have their 'clique' and if you're not in it, you have to leave.”
