About The Ship Inn Weymouth

The Ship Inn Weymouth is a harbourside pub and restaurant on Custom House Quay in Weymouth, with a log fire indoors and Badger Beer on the bar. Food is ordered and paid for at the bar before eating. The kitchen serves a roast lunch that includes roast beef, and the menu also lists a butternut eggplant curry for those who want something meatless. Sticky ginger pudding is on the dessert side. The pub is set up for families, and children are given activity packs to use at the table. Dogs are welcome too, so a visit with the whole household is straightforward.

Customer Review Summary

Friendly, attentive service is what most reviewers praise first, with several singling out individual waitresses and a welcoming host who looked after tables through a Sunday lunch and a busy bank holiday weekend. On the plate, diners name the roast beef with generous portions, a steak called delicious and well presented, a butternut eggplant curry, gluten free desserts, and a sticky ginger pudding described as out of this world, alongside great wines. The harbour view, outdoor seating and welcome for families and dogs also come up. The caveat is inconsistency. One diner found the fish and chips overcooked, dry and chewy, with dry chips, and disliked having to pay at the bar before eating. Another describes a very long wait with no food arriving and a rude exchange at the service counter when asking for a child to be served. One reviewer admits the presentation was not brilliant but forgave it for the flavour, and suggests booking. One waitress also handed two younger sisters extra kids activity packs.

“loved the aesthetic and decor! had the steak which was really delicious and well presented food overall. the waiter (didn’t catch his name unfortunately) was very friendly, cheerful, and quick service too :) another waitress also gave my two younger sisters extra kids activity packs which we really appreciated! thank you for having us”

“Unfortunately, far from a great experience. My fish arrived hot, but it was very overcooked, dry and chewy. It tasted like it had possibly been cooked earlier and reheated. The chips were also dry and really didn't taste fresh. You have to order and pay for your food at the bar before you eat, a bit like Brewers Fayre. The problem with that is you've already paid before finding out how poor the food is. The service was okay and the pub itself had a nice atmosphere, but the quality of the food really let the visit down. When you're in Weymouth and ordering fish and chips by the seaside, you expect much better than this.”

“Nice pub at the side of the harbour. Nice & clean. Staff were friendly & helpful. Food was delicious & reasonably priced. We visited around 3pm it wasn't overly busy & we waited around 25 minutes for the food which was served hot & fresh. It's a family & dog friendly pub. Outdoor seating when its a nice gives you a lovely view of the harbour.”
