Customer Review Summary
The complaints are specific. One family reports no heating, meals arriving half an hour apart, a roast they call terrible, and a coffee order that took so long they cancelled it. Another describes a Caesar salad in a very hot bowl that left the lettuce limp, and dry chicken. A third calls the ham, egg and chips ordinary, saying the chips were frozen. Others note no red wine, no IPA, and some beer unavailable. One guest mentions a dirty napkin that stayed on a table for two days.

“Went here for a Sunday Roast after a long hike. The Landlady was amazing, super friendly and made us feel right at home. The roast was the best I've had in at least the last 10 years. The Pub is old school at the front and then has a lovely conservatory area at the back and garden the overlooks St Catherine's Church at the top of the hill. Highly recommend!”

“We just came to the restaurant and our meals were terrible. They took an eternity to come and my Caesar salad was served in a very hot bowl which made the lettuce limp. Unbelievable!! They offered to change the bowl!! Ok but I was too hungry to get the salad remade. The other meal we had was ok but the chicken was very dry. Another place needs to operate here to raise the standard.”

“The food, whist described as special is just ordinary pub food at best. I had the ham perfect egg and special cooked chips. The ham was ok, one of the two eggs was broken and neither were perfect, the special cooked chips were just frozen chips, not even real potato. You pays your money and takes your choice. My choice would be to go somewhere else next time.”

“Had dinner at Ilchester tonight as heard it was under new management and had vastly improved . Met the new Manager Jenna, who was charming, informed and interested. Food was delicious, I had a starter of mackerel pate with chips and coleslaw as not too hungry. It was delicious. Other two people with me had sausage and mash and loved it. Lovely to know this pub restaurant is back in the game and look forward to many more meals here.”

“Nice enough pub. Unfortunately no red wine! No IPA, lunch was adequate, the one staff member waiting on tables and the bar was fantastic and did an excellent job with a lot of humour. Unfortunately didn't get his name. 11 July 2026 table for six.”
