Quick info
About Mr Lau's
Mr Lau's is a Chinese restaurant and dim sum bar at 2 Springfield St in Warrington, with a dimly lit dining room and a separate bar for drinks. Dim sum is the focus of the menu, and a 50% off dim sum offer gives diners a reason to order several baskets at one sitting. Beyond dim sum, the kitchen cooks firecracker beef and wonton soup, and pork belly also appears among the dishes. Gluten-free options are available for guests who need them. The restaurant serves lunch and hosts celebrations, and the bar covers cocktails for groups who want drinks alongside the meal.

Customer Review Summary
Dim sum draws the most mentions, with one diner ordering eight different pieces from a dim sum offer, calling each one delicious and noting the food arrived about ten minutes after ordering. Beef comes close behind: sizzling Cantonese beef skewers, firecracker beef, and beef and pork belly described as cooked to perfection, plus a wonton soup served piping hot. Reviewers also praise welcoming staff, accommodating gluten-free options, and a relaxed, romantic, modern room that suited birthdays and anniversaries. One solo diner felt welcome, and one reviewer booked ahead because the place is popular. Two reviewers were far less satisfied. Both found the room very dark, one needing a lamp to read the menu. They described mains as oily and mushy, a sweet and sour overwhelmed by vinegar, and pricing too high for the portions, with the dim sum judged short of central Manchester. Service was called blunt, and a forgotten main arrived late, leaving the shared sides cold. The firecracker beef was so overcooked it was barely edible, and the manager reduced its charge.

“Brilliant relaxing ambience The service from Nigel and Grace was absolutely impeccable. Food was exquisite. Everytime I come from Derby I make it a point to eat here. Thank you for making me feel so welcome especially as I came by myself. God bless”

“Visited last night after reading some great reviews. The restaurant is beautiful, although very dark — we had to ask for a lamp just to read the menu. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match the price. One of our four mains was forgotten and arrived around 15 minutes after everyone else's, leaving the shared sides cold. My sweet and sour was overwhelmed by vinegar, while my husband's £20 firecracker beef was so overcooked it was barely edible. The manager did reduce the beef to £10, which we appreciated, but we still paid £172 for four people with only one alcoholic drink. For that price, I expected far better food and service (some of the younger waiters waitresses were nice and pokite but iur main waitress possessed no real hospitality skills). In our experience, the quality was more like a below-average chip-shop Chinese, but at premium restaurant prices. Beautiful surroundings, but sadly the food, service and value for money were nowhere near the standard the price suggests. We won't be rushing back.”

“We visited Mr. Lau's for the first time today. While it’s not a spot we’d return to, I wanted to leave a fair reflection of our experience. We took advantage of the Sunday 50% off Dim Sum deal, which brought the price down, though standard menu pricing is on the higher side in our opinion. The food was a mixed bag—flavors were alright, but the main dishes felt a bit oily and overly soft/mushy. The Dim Sum is okay, though it doesn't quite rival what you can get in central Manchester. Especially comparing normal price to portion size. Atmosphere-wise, the dark ambient lighting is a nice idea, though some corners a bit too dim for our preference, and sitting directly under the air conditioning left us feeling pretty chilly. Service was also a bit blunt, while I appreciate service work is demanding, the lady that took our order didn't make us feel particularly welcomed. We had a question and she simply mumbled "I don't know" instead of checking with someone to give us an answer, so we avoided the dish. Most reviews here are glowing, so it may just be hit-or-miss depending on the day. We don't regret giving it a try, and it's still worth checking out for yourself to see if it suits your taste.”

“We had a fantastic meal on Saturday 8th Aug 2026, it was a shame the table behind us were rude people, ordering most expensive food, drinking lots of alcohol then refusing to pay. Staff handled the situation professionally under such difficult circumstances with unreasonable people. The food was delicious and I would definitely recommend Mr Lau’s.”

“Came here for my wedding anniversary and me and my wife loved it. Plenty of choice on food, great portions and amazing flavours. Staff attentive and very helpful. Lovely relaxed and modern atmosphere yet still in a formal setting.”
