Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the Sunday carvery, described as delicious with a very generous portion, and the burgers and a huge chocolate cake draw praise from a large leaving party. Close behind is the service, which reviewers call friendly and welcoming, from a bar team that kept food and drinks coming after the till crashed to a manager who explained how food is prepared for a diner newly diagnosed as coeliac. Others mention a buffet breakfast that was fresh and regularly topped up, and staff who knew the vegan options. The complaints concentrate on ordering from the regular menu and on weekend pricing. One diner found a burger burnt and unseasoned, with coleslaw touching the rest of the plate, and gammon that was chewy. Another called a half chicken with onion rings bland and sparse, and objected to the weekend surcharge for the carvery. A Biscoff cheesecake arrived without its ice cream and with a wrapped biscuit pushed into it. One reviewer asked for a tip jar.

“Our party of 2 adults and 2 teenagers called into Chapelford Farm for a bite to eat following an afternoon's shopping. We were served by the fabulous Siobhan, who was an absolute joy, bringing everyone at the bar into the conversation and creating a great atmosphere. She has such a lovely welcoming personality and nothing was too much trouble. When the till system crashed after the first part of our order had gone through, we were still given the food and drinks from the second order, despite being unable to pay at that time, so we could all eat together. Excellent customer service and Siobhan still remembered our order for entry in the till when were were finally able to pay. I've been going to Chapelford Farm for many years and I can honestly say I've never had such superb service. Thank you Siobhan xx”

“Went for an end of year leaving meal with over 20 people ordering separately and this was no problem for the staff. The app was easy to use for ordering. Servers were friendly and accommodating and we all enjoyed our meals with all plates going back empty. Can highly recommend the burgers and the huge chocolate cake which I ended up taking home to share with the family. 🥳💙🍺”

“This was my first time in this place. Come for a Sunday roast and thought we’d give it a go as toby carvery don’t half get boring. The atmosphere when we walked in was absolutely fantastic, a very friendly welcome by one of the waiters who took us to a table. We had the carvery and it was delicious, with a very generous portion size. The general manager is fantastic, not only did he positively interact with us but I also observed him interacting with many of the other guests in a way that would make a positive impact and make people want to come back. I compared this with another green king on the other side of town and the difference is huge. I would highly recommend this place to anyone for food, drinks and very high standard service”

“Had the buffet breakfast at Chapford Farm this morning and was really impressed. There was a great selection of items, and everything was fresh, well stocked, and regularly topped up. The food was tasty, with plenty of choice. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the dining area was clean and well looked after. It was excellent value for money and a great way to start the day. I'll definitely be back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a good breakfast.”

“As an American visiting the UK, I was surprised by the significant weekend pricing at this restaurant. In the United States, it is uncommon to see the same meal increase so dramatically simply because it is a Saturday or Sunday, so paying substantially more for my family’s meals than I would have during the week was disappointing and definitely put a dent in the wallet. I was actually looking forward to trying the Sunday carvery, but I disagreed with the weekend surcharge and decided to order from the regular menu instead. Unfortunately, that decision backfired. I ordered the half chicken with two sides of onion rings, and the meal was underwhelming. The chicken was bland, lacked seasoning, and could have been cooked better. Because I selected onion rings as both sides, the plate felt sparse and lacked the vegetables or accompaniments that would have made it feel like a complete meal. The carvery itself looked appealing, and perhaps I would have enjoyed that more, but I struggled with the idea of paying a premium simply because it was Sunday. The staff were pleasant, but the food quality and overall value did not meet my expectations. I left feeling disappointed, especially after looking forward to a traditional family meal. Additionally, the dessert was a Biscoff cheesecake that was supposed to come with ice cream, but the ice cream was missing. To make matters worse, a Biscoff cookie was placed directly into the cheesecake while still in its wrapper. I found that presentation off-putting and somewhat unsanitary, which further detracted from the overall dining experience.”
