About Cafe 19

Cafe 19 welcomes dogs to the point that the team brings out a bowl of sausages for them, at its spot on Cross Square in Wakefield. The kitchen cooks fresh on site and runs a wide menu built for small and large appetites alike, with breakfast offered in small and large sizes, the large arriving with two slices of toast and a cup of tea. Plates come out full. Drinks cover coffee, including decaf, tea and hot chocolate, and staff take orders and bring everything to the table. There is no booking, so customers simply walk in, and the cafe trades Monday to Saturday with Wednesdays and Sundays closed. A step-free entrance keeps the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs make room for families with young children. Seating outside gives the option of eating in the open air.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast is what brings most reviewers back, described as proper home cooked food arriving in portions they call huge, with the large breakfast counted out as two slices of toast and a cup of tea alongside it, and one diner noting there was nothing small about the small breakfast. Close behind sit the generously loaded plates from the wider menu: a baked spud with tuna mayo, beans and cheese served with a substantial salad and coleslaw, an omelette with chips, a beef burger with fries, chicken with rice, and desserts including cheesecake and trifle. Several single out the drinks, one calling the hot chocolate the best in ages and another relieved the decaf did not taste like dishwater. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, with nothing too much trouble; one reviewer had a slight order mix-up that was rectified, and another found the room very noisy. Dog owners mention a bowl of sausages brought out for their pooch.

Ordered a small breakfast nothing small about it plenty on plate, cooked beautifully and tasted amazing best breakfast I've had in ages. The cafe was a very relaxing place and staff we're very friendly. Definitely will go again.

Lovely cafe, we've been for breakfast today, proper home cooked food and tea served in proper mugs! Staff are all lovely, nothing's too much trouble. We will definitely be back 😁

We went for an early lunch. Only my Mum does sweet and sour food better! The trifle was delicious. The staff do their job well too.
  • Keith Sharp
I visited today for a baked spud with tuna mayo, beans and cheese and a cuppa tea. The meal was huge and included a substantial salad with coleslaw. All was delicious and at £10.45, excellent value for money, best I've had! My only downmark on atmosphere is because it was very noisy, but nothing the café can do about that. I can't give enough praise on 5* food and service. HIGHLY recommended 👍🏻

Visited for the first time today but it certainly won’t be the last! Fabulous coffee, (when you drink decaf it often tastes like dishwater) that was so good we decided to have lunch. Brilliant deal from the over 65’s menu , two tasty chicken dishes with rice followed by two delicious cheesecakes and a drink all for under £10 each! We will be back to sample more of the delicious freshly cooked dishes on the extensive menu!

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
