Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the shepherd's pie and the set menu, with the French onion soup, duck liver parfait, sea bream and the Ivy Burger also named as tasty. Several praise the lunch set menu as very good value, and the sourdough bread arrives warm and generous. Queenie scallop and prawn linguine is called small but perfect, and the chocolate bomb dessert is described as stunning. Service draws the most praise, with one waiter repeatedly called friendly, attentive and professional, and staff marking birthdays and anniversaries with a dessert, some with a candle. Cocktails are called excellent, and the champagne colada is described as great fun. The complaints are scattered but specific. One reviewer found the steak overcooked and the salad chicken dry, and a waiter lifted their drink while asking if they had finished it, so they skipped dessert. Others mention a slow order, cocktails that took an age, chips that were meh and service described as nonchalant at a busy lunchtime. One partner was disappointed by a cookie dough hot chocolate that seemed to come from powder, while another party was moved indoors on request because of the heat.

“Went for lunch. Food was good, twice baked souffle and fillet steak, chips were meh. Service was nonchelant, although it was a busy lunchtime. We also tried the champagne colada which was great fun and packed a punch.”

“I recently visited here with friends for lunch. It was wonderful. The staff we very friendly and helpful. We had originally booked a table outside but asked to go inside as it was too hot. They were more than happy to accommodate this. The food was wonderful they had a choice of 2 set menus for very good price or you could order off the main menu. They also had prosecco at half price. I would highly recommend.”

“We visited a few days ago after not having been there for about half a year. I spent some time deciding whether to write this review because the experience stayed on my mind. The restaurant still looks great, but both the food and the service have room for improvement. We ordered the £19.66 light lunch menu. I'm not sure whether the chef was disappointed that England had lost to Argentina, but the steak was overcooked. Even the chicken breast in my salad was dry. What has lingered in my mind the most, however, was the service from one member of the staff. We received a warm welcome from the hostess when she realised it was my partner's birthday, and the first waiter who served us (a slim gentleman with very short hair) provided excellent service. Their friendliness helped make up for the shortcomings of the food. Later, however, another waiter seemed to be in a hurry to clear our table. At one point, he actually lifted my drink into the air while asking whether I had finished it, which felt quite awkward and rushed. Because of that experience, we decided to skip dessert. That was how we spent one of our birthday lunches. Overall, it was a disappointing visit.”

“Our waiter David was very attentive from the start, his mannerism friendliness and all round hospitality was definitely noticed. David made our experience 10/10 he is a credit to the establishment & deserves to be commended on his customer service.”

“We sat outside on a beautiful summer evening, the food was incredible. Queenie scallop & prawn linguine was small but perfect - so tasty. Chocolate bomb deserts were stunning. Excellent cocktails, even better service by David who was friendly, professional and lovely to chat to. Wonderful experience and throughly recommend.”
