About The Hidden Well casual asian dining
The Hidden Well casual asian dining is a pan-asian restaurant at 77 St John's Rd in Tunbridge Wells, with a tiny dining room split across two levels. Dishes come out in an Asian tapas-style format, so the menu is built around small plates that suit sharing. Bao buns feature prominently, including a crispy prawn bao bun served with wasabi-mayo and fresh mango. Noodles sit alongside them, among them dan dan noodles. The dessert is a bao bun ice-cream, which carries the bao theme through to the end of the meal. The room holds only a handful of tables.

Customer Review Summary
Bao buns lead the praise, from duck bao buns to a crispy prawn version with wasabi mayo and fresh mango, which one reviewer says is to die for. Noodles come close behind, including beef noodles with marinated egg and dan dan noodles, and one regular who travels from Orpington calls them the best noodles they have had. Prawn dumplings, prawn toast, salt and pepper squid and chicken skewers also turn up in reviewers' lists of delicious dishes. The small room is described as relaxing and cosy, with friendly, prompt service. The criticism is limited but specific. One returning diner found the satay chicken skewer smaller, the bao buns about half the size and the noodles closer to a pack of super noodles. They also felt left alone downstairs and found the bench seating too high for the chairs. Another reviewer wished the coffee and drinks were better. One suggests booking ahead because the restaurant is small. Reviewers also single out the bao bun ice-cream and the pandan cake as spectacular.

“Beautiful meal in this quirky little restaurant in Tunbridge Wells. Almost like an Asian Tapas style service, food was beautifully presented and each dish had its own unique flavour . Baobuns were to die for as were the prawn dumplings. Service was excellent , from both Catherine and Penny , attentive but not over bearing. Food and drinks were brought quickly and everything we ate was delicious. Will we go back , oh for sure 10/10 The Hidden Well , what you do you do amazingly well !!!!”

“This is easily our favorite restaurant. We travel frequently all the way from Orpington for it. In the years we've been going there, I've never had one bad meal. The food is amazing—best noodles I've had—and always consistent. The owner is lovely too. Would highly recommend.”

“I’d recommend their noodles, full of flavours. They offer Sichuan styled noodles, in which there are different kind of spices and Sichuan pepper oil. The beef noodles with marinated egg were really great. If they made better coffee and drinks, I would have given them 5 stars.”

“Lovely restaurant with a diverse menu. Everything we ordered was delicious (tofu, bao buns, salt and pepper squid, lemongrass pork chop and dan dan noodles). Staff were friendly. Make sure to book ahead as it’s a small restaurant”
