Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the all-you-can-eat buffet, led by a wide choice of fresh salads with different dressings and olives, and diners can go back as often as they like. Hot dishes come close behind, namely noodles, macaroni cheese and dahl, and the coffee is called very good. Several diners who are not vegetarian or vegan describe the food as delicious and delicately flavoured, and one gluten-free diner found nearly everything suitable. Value for money comes up repeatedly, along with a relaxed, communal atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. One reviewer travels from Sidmouth just to eat here, and a holiday visitor called it the best food of the trip. The main caveat is space: one reviewer suggests arriving early because the restaurant is small and gets busy quickly. Staff and the owner are described as carefully explaining each dish, including one who answered questions about the sauces on certain salads twice while a diner went back for seconds.

“I went with my friend yesterday to Seeds 2 as it’s our regular treat and finally thought I should leave a review. As always the staff were friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere is relaxed and very communal, and the food is delicious. Great variety of freshly prepared dishes. We‘ll be back soon!!”

“Good food, but concerning response to a food-safety issue As a professional chef, I generally try to be understanding when reviewing restaurants because I know that mistakes can happen in any kitchen. However, what happened during our visit was concerning enough that I feel it is important to mention. During our lunch, my wife found a small, hard black piece of what appeared to be plastic in the mushrooms we had been served. Fortunately, she noticed it before swallowing it. I was the one who approached the lady who had welcomed us when we arrived. I deliberately spoke to her privately and quietly because I didn’t want to embarrass the restaurant or draw the attention of other customers. My intention was simply to make the restaurant aware of a potential food-safety issue so that it could be dealt with appropriately. Unfortunately, her initial reaction was disappointing. Her facial expression and manner gave me the impression that she was questioning whether this could actually have happened or whether I was being truthful. I appreciate that I cannot know what she was thinking, but that was very clearly the impression her reaction gave me at the time. From a professional kitchen perspective, I would have expected the dish or remaining portion to be taken off the table immediately and brought back to the kitchen for proper investigation. The chef and kitchen team are in the best position to examine the food, establish where the foreign object might have come from, check the preparation area and equipment, and make the rest of the kitchen team aware of the issue. Other portions of the same preparation could then be checked before being served to another customer. Instead, the food was briefly checked and we were given an apology, but the response felt surprisingly dismissive given the potential seriousness of what had happened. The issue for me was not simply that something had gone wrong — mistakes can happen — but how the situation was handled when it was brought to their attention. I have since read the owner’s response to my wife’s review on Google Maps. She explained that the remaining food was checked, staff were spoken to and kitchen equipment and utensils were inspected. I appreciate that these steps were subsequently taken. However, it is unclear whether the source of the plastic was ever identified or whether any corrective measures were introduced to prevent something similar happening again. That is an important part of properly addressing an incident like this. The food itself was actually very good, and the restaurant is a lovely place. The staff were attentive and we had otherwise been enjoying our lunch. That is why it is particularly disappointing that this incident overshadowed what could have been a very positive experience. I hope the restaurant takes this as constructive feedback and uses the incident as an opportunity to review both its food-safety procedures and how staff respond when a customer raises a concern of this nature.”

“I always love it here- huge variety of refillable buffet style salads all of them are absolutely divine. I’m gluten free and 95% of all the food was an option for me. There were also some good noodle and mac and cheese options for non/gluten free. Came on a bank holiday there was loads of options, staff were super friendly too answering questions about what sauce was on certain salads (even when we asked twice filling up for seconds!) Nourishing food for a bit over a tenner, can’t go wrong to break up the fish and chips!”

“Another delicious lunch at Seeds. We travel from Sidmouth just to eat here, it's amazing. Really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Food is always delicious. Lots of salad choice, 3 x hot dishes noddles, macaroni cheese, and Dahl. Different dressings olives etc. All you can eat buffet style. Highly recommend but arrive early as it's not a large restaurant and it's very popular so gets busy quickly. Staff are always helpful and smiley Thank you again Seeds and see you soon”
