Customer Review Summary
Pizza is the dish reviewers argue over most. One calls it the best in the city and surrounding areas, while several others find it greasy and soggy with little flavour, and one says it did not match the menu description and arrived missing ingredients. Pasta draws similar complaints, described as overcooked and bland or tasting like it came from a tin, and the salad is called tiny for the money. Service splits just as sharply. Some praise friendly, efficient waitresses and staff who asked about allergies, and one couple returned a second evening for their 30th wedding anniversary. Others describe slow tables, lukewarm soup, a distracted barman and a long wait for food. Value is a recurring grumble, with portions seen as small for the cost. One reviewer suggests the place for a drink but not a meal. After a complaint about two soggy pizzas, the manager blamed the diner's choice of topping, then took money off the bill.

“Popped in for a meal on chance and have to say we were pleasantly surprised, food was good and sufficient but the service we received from “Jess” our waitress was second to none, pleasant, polite and very efficient, we will return.”

“We dined late afternoon (17th Sept). Popped in on the off chance, our last night in Totnes, the best 'pub food' I've had in ages! Jess and Sid attended to us, ultra professional and friendly, hope the management realise what talented staff they have, you are a credit to your company!”

“£60 for two kids meals, two half bowls of luke warm soup (£10.50 each!!) and a couple of drinks, also took 45 minutes to serve this! The server unfortunately wasn't too sure when taking the order or about how long the food might take, baring in mind I had made it clear about parking being up whilst waiting. Does this place seem to keep getting worse or is it just me??”

“Visited the Waterside Bistro for a drink sitting outside by the river. Very scruffy, dirty patio, dirty tables & benches. Nothing attractive there at all ! No plants in sight other than some scruffy seen better days plants. Waiter came from kitchen carrying a pizza with vape in other hand. Placed pizza on customers table and retreated back through archway towards kitchen, stopped carried on vaping and looking at his phone. So unprofessional! Also very untidy by the kitchen door and in need of a good sweep up and clean. Went inside to the toilet, really smelly. Very disappointed and won’t be going back for a drink or food! Come on Waterside, such a wonderful location for locals and tourists alike. Disappointing.”
