About Platform One Cafe
Platform One Cafe is a cafe on the first floor of Swindon's STEAM Museum, up the stairs rather than at ground level. A museum ticket is not needed to eat here, so a meal does not depend on a gallery visit. The menu runs to 43 dishes, with ham, egg and chips and jacket potatoes among the hot plates. Afternoon tea with scones is also available, and the tea arrives by the pot. The cafe is a small room, which suits a stop for a drink or a light lunch.

What reviewers say
Reviewers most often mention generously filled paninis, ham, egg and chips, jacket potatoes and hot special burger.
Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers praise generously filled food at reasonable prices, with the paninis described as huge and the chips as crunchy outside and soft inside. Close behind are ham, egg and chips, a soup called very tasty, nice jacket potatoes, and a hot special burger praised for its flavors. Several note the café can be entered without paying for the museum, and a few call the service friendly and prompt, with one enjoying a big pot of tea. The recurring complaint is a poor selection of food and snacks, and one visitor found no hot food menus displayed and settled for a sandwich. Others describe a superheated soup, an afternoon tea scone warmed in a microwave, and grumpy staff who began mopping the floor around 3pm as if wanting customers to leave. Two coffees arrived only lukewarm and were replaced.

“Not good. Poor selection of food. Afternoon tea scone was warmed in microwave !! Grumpy staff started mopping the restaurant floor with strong disinfectant at about 3pm, clearly wishing the pesky customers would leave.”

“Very reasonably priced food and a good selection of options. Great to visit at the Steam Museum without having to pay entry. Very happy with my ham, egg & chips for £9.50 👍😋. Prompt and friendly service. Also happy Amex is accepted. Certainly worth a visit.”
- Clive Longbottom
“A bit basic, but the soup I had (other than being superheated) was very tasty. Well priced as well.”
- ANN LIGHT
“Ha drinks before visiting the museum and then food in-between all the exhibits to allow a bit of rest for the old brain - the cafe is small and not on the ground floor and the toilets are down stairs There is a menu and the jacket potatoes were nice”
