Customer Review Summary
Friendly, attentive staff run through most reviews, from a waitress who took orders at the table despite there being no table service to a server who topped up gravy and potatoes during a Sunday lunch. The food comes close behind. Reviewers single out the roast beef, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese, fish and chips described as done to perfection, tasty sharer plates, and freshly made children's meals. The garden and its adventure play area come up repeatedly from families, and one reviewer praises the mocktails. The one caveat comes from a reviewer who found the food very mixed, called the pithivier appalling and the plating overly decorated at the expense of wholesomeness, and had to ask to be moved away from a large noisy family party. Dog owners say their pooch felt part of the restaurant and even got his own meal, and one family describes the team hosting fourteen guests for a wake lunch at short notice.

“Great pub, very nice food & exceptional staff. Highly recommend the Plough and Harrow for lunch, the garden area is very nice and the staff are very helpful even in busy periods. We had food from the sharer menu which was tasty & full of flavour. Thank you, we will be back.”

“Twice now they have gone over & above for us. Last year we held my father’s wake there. They accommodated 14 of us for lunch a fairly short notice with a nice area as it was a weekday afternoon is was fairly private. This year was dad’s stone setting we had a lovely Sunday lunch wonderful service accommodating to our needs. A massive thank you 🙏 once again. Great food lovely menu, caters for gluten intolerance and smaller portions for my elderly guests. Thank you guys so much. Will definitely be back on less somber occasions. One of my party thought the roast potatoes were the best she has had out, she knows her potatoes! Also the cauliflower cheese was excellent!”

“My wife and I had driven past the plough & harrow many times and decided to try it out for dinner. What a revelation. The setting is fantastic, the dining room is beautifully decorated and the tables on the outdoor terrace are fantastic. The food was absolutely outstanding. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavour profiles were spot on. Comparing the price to the quality of food produced, the only conclusion is its superb value for money as well. The staff were extremely attentive and engaging, and our server - Tilly, was absolutely fantastic. She was very attentive without being overbearing, engaging and pleasant to chat to, made superb suggestions from the menu and enhanced our dining experience. She’s an asset to the plough and harrow, no doubt. Will absolutely be returning here time and time again”

“I’ve been to The Plough and Harrow a number of times and it has always been consistently good, but today was truly excellent. First of all, the staff are genuinely friendly, helpful, and professional. Our waitress came over to take our order at the table even though it wasn’t table service, which was a huge help as I was there with young children and repeated trips to and from the bar can be a bit of a faff. The team were also very patient with our slightly pedantic table-hopping as my children’s sun/shade preferences kept changing! The food was fantastically fresh. I very much doubt they use the freezer for much beyond ice cubes and ice cream. I had probably the best fish and chips of my life: simple, but done to perfection. It felt elevated, and for the first time I genuinely felt the £19.25 price tag was fully justified. The children’s food was excellent too. No sad, overly salty sausages or powdered gravy here — just proper, freshly made food with care put into it. The garden area is lovely, and the generous adventure play area for children is a real bonus. This place is a treat. A genuinely happy place. 🌞”
Highlights
“A Heartwood Inn. Expect seasonal food, perfectly poured pints and an expertly curated wine list. The Plough & Harrow has undergone an extensive refurbishment to create a cosy bar area with double sided fireplace as well as attractively designed dining areas in a new airy conservatory with glazed doors overlooking the garden and a new garden room with a retractable roof so you can dine al fresco whatever the weather. The spacious and enclosed garden area has picnic benches and a children's play area for outside dining and kids enjoyment. The perfect place to get everyone together and relax over a nice meal.”
