About The Locks Coffee House + Bar
The Locks Coffee House + Bar is an independent coffee shop on Derby St in Marple that also runs as a licensed bar, so wine and beers sit on the menu alongside coffee. The kitchen cooks breakfast, brunch and lunch, with a full English, eggs Benedict and BLTs among the plates. Vegetarian options are part of the food menu too, and bacon turns up in several dishes, including bacon rolls and tomatoes on toast. Coffee comes with the brunch menu, and the bar gives guests a drink option beyond the usual cafe range. Regulars can start a loyalty card and work toward a free hot drink.

Customer Review Summary
Brunch plates built around eggs and toast draw the most praise. One reviewer calls the poached eggs on eggs royale perfect, and another enjoyed tomatoes on toast with sweet tomatoes and a lovely crunch from pumpkin seeds. Welsh rarebit with loads of flavour and loaded hash browns come up close behind, and several describe a menu with plenty of variety and good quality for the money. A few mention friendly service and quick turnaround on a busy Saturday. The recurring complaint is slow food and uneven service. A full English arrived late with cold toast and bacon and scrambled eggs described as whites, though the sausages and beans were liked. Two bacon rolls were slow in a quiet room, with fatty, chewy bacon and rolls that fell apart. Another diner found a reserved table had not been held, then waited a long time for both drinks and food. One family notes that the kids were brought pencils and crayons to draw with.

“Delicious brunch and coffee. I had the tomatoes on toast and added some bacon too. The menu has got lots of variety and as a non egg lover it was great to find lots of non egg options! The tomatoes were sweet and delicious and the pumpkin seeds added a lovely crunch. I would highly recommend coming here. 😋👌”

“A great café in the heart of Marple. Service was great, and so was the breakfast. I had eggs royale and my mum had the Welsh rarebit. The rarebit had loads of flavour and is one of my mum’s favourites along with the loaded hash browns. My poached eggs were *perfect* I thoroughly enjoyed. Great to see they have a licence as well and a range of interesting events. Will definitely be back.”

“Great cafe with licence. Very good food menu, all the standard fare but with a great quality twist. We were there in the week following Easter so very busy and were informed of a wait for our food which was fine. Will be back!”

“I’m gutted this wasn’t good! I really wanted to like it as the place looks great. I had the full English but sadly not even the amazing ingredients from local butchers saved it. 40 minutes this bad boy took to come to the table. Cold toast and bacon, the scrambled eggs identified as whites and even though the bacon was brown it was far from crispy. Oh the deep fried sausages and the beans were good but for £15? I would usually say this to the waiting staff but I think they’re all mute as non of them said a word to me.”

“Nice place, clean, decent menu and quick service considering it was quite a busy Saturday morning.”
