Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to the roast dinners, with reviewers praising tender roast beef, pork and lamb served with the biggest Yorkshire puddings they have seen. Close behind are the desserts, where a chocolate mousse and a cheese platter get singled out, and several reviewers simply call the puddings exceptional. Others mention oysters, lamb shank stew, roast chicken and shared tapas, and the friendly service and rooftop or terrace tables come up repeatedly in celebratory visits. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the steak from steak night poor quality, with fat chips like fried mashed potatoes, while another called the duck pastrami starter flavourless and arriving as if pre-plated, followed by a very long wait for a roast that needed seasoning. A third felt small plates of four prawns and three mini duck bai buns were not good value, and described an empty, dark dining room on a Tuesday evening. Even so, one reviewer who found the roast under-seasoned still called the dessert truly exceptional.

“Managed to get a roof table on a beautiful evening. Great tapas which was lovely for sharing, good selection of wine and fab desserts too, thank you”

“Had a reservation yesterday( Tuesday evening) no one else there, no atmosphere, very dark inside, no candles on tables or ambience, almost felt it was closing ( at 6.45) or not quite open. Food tasted delicious but £11 for 4 prawns, £11 for mini mini burgers( elaborate name sliders) and same price for 3 mini duck bai buns I thought not good value for money. The waitress, Poppy, was very charming, friendly and helpful. I wish her every success in her new career”

“The Slanted Door in Stamford is an unparalleled fine dining experience that should not be missed! Situated on the edge of the River Welland, this beautiful restaurant offers a variety of dishes inspired by traditional French and European cuisine. I recently visited The Slanted Door for a special night out with my partner. We were immediately struck by the elegance and ambiance of the restaurant. The food was delicious - every dish was cooked to perfection and presented with care and detail. We started off with some oysters before moving on to lamb shank stew and roast chicken, both of which were beautifully done. For dessert we had a decadent chocolate mousse that melted in our mouths, topped off with a glass of bubbly. Overall, I would highly recommend The Slanted Door Stamford for an unforgettable fine dining experience!”

“After a day of sunning ourselves at a local reservoir, we decided to have some dinner in Stamford. A Google search identified The Slanted Door as a good option. The images looked nice and when I called for a reservation, I was told it was steak night. Now anyone who reads my reviews knows that I am a sucker for a good steak, so the decision was made. The venue itself is quaint and there is a tiny outdoor balcony, with the weather being this nice, we ate on the balcony. The inside is only small and tables for four are probably the biggest parties to be accommodated comfortably. I obviously opted for the steak (a sirloin with chimichuri sauce and garlic butter) and the steaks are all served with fat chips, a portabello mushroom and tomato. My better half ordered the roasted salmon from the fine dining menu. Now the salmon was cooked well and tasted fresh, but the steak was awful. The cut of meat was not great and the fat chips were not a complimentary side. They were essentially fried mashed potatoes. The steak tasted poor quality and was not pleasant. They advertise a Steak Night, but they really shouldn’t! It is not a good steak and whilst the price is reasonable, the meat is not. It is a nice venue and the service is great, the fine dining menu looks good but avoid the steaks. I would recommend this place, but not for steak night.”

“One of the best restaurants we have visited in a long time. The service was great, the menu small, simple but perfect, and every dish cooked brilliantly. It’s hard to find a restaurant that ticks all boxes these days, but this one certainly did. Our group of five loved every dish and to top it off the desserts where amazing! Highly recommended.”
